Our Group Head of Banking & Infrastructure, Mark Hewlett, participated in an insightful panel session at The Payments Canada SUMMIT, "Sharing open banking success stories: spotlight on UK fintech innovation". Supported by regulation and fueled by innovation and investment, open banking has fundamentally reshaped the UK's financial landscape, establishing it as a global leader and a vibrant hub for fintech innovation. This panel explored the concrete experiences of three UK-based fintechs that have successfully leveraged this framework, drawing out key takeaways and discussing their potential applicability to Canada’s open banking journey.   Our thanks to the Payments Canada team for the excellent organization and for facilitating these critical discussions. At Ebury, we value these spaces to connect with other leaders and continue driving innovative solutions for our clients. Thank you to everyone who participated. If you could ask Mark one question about financial solutions trends or expansion in Canada, what would it be? Drop it in the comments! #Ebury #Canada #PaymentsMatter

Earlier this month, 2,300+ payments leaders gathered in Toronto for the The Payments Canada SUMMIT and Intellect was proud to be a part of it. J.D. (John David) Penner, our VP, Wholesale Banking and Payments Practice Lead, was on the ground absorbing the latest shifts in our industry. Check out this short video as J.D. maps out the path forward: From the transformative power of real-time payments, to harnessing the true value of AI, to balancing the financial and human impact of AI. These insights drive our mission at Intellect, where we are committed to supporting financial institutions, big and small, as they navigate and lead in today’s emerging financial sector. It was a real pleasure speaking at the The Payments Canada SUMMIT earlier this month, where the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) hosted a Deep Dive session on digital assets. We shared our perspective on how the digital assets story could evolve over the next decade — and what it means for Canadian banks, fintechs, and policymakers. We also had two excellent and lively panels: → The Future of Digital Assets in Canada, with Elizabeth St-Onge (TD Securities), Kesem Frank (Stablecorp Inc.), and Felipe Priuli (Tetra Digital Group). Great to hear from the builders — and to feel their excitement around how digital assets could fundamentally change how we 'do' finance → Digital Assets Policy in Canada, with Carlo Campisi (Shakepay), Francisco Rivadeneyra (Bank of Canada), and Melissa Taylor (Ontario Securities Commission). There is clearly real momentum in Canada — and a willingness from stakeholders to work together to balance innovation and risk A thank you also to Sriram Darbha (Bank of Canada) for a terrific perspective on Canadian tokenization efforts to date, including Project Samara Inderpreet Batra Casey Buckley, CFA Priyan Selvakumar Dawson Li

Was great to wrap up a fantastic visit to Canada, with the opportunity to attend The Payments Canada SUMMIT and spend time connecting with colleagues, clients and industry leaders across the ecosystem. A few themes strongly stood out throughout the conversations and sessions: 🔐 Cybersecurity, anti-money laundering practices and fraud prevention continue to be front and center. As payments become faster, smarter and increasingly digital, the focus is not only on enabling frictionless experiences, but also ensuring the right guardrails are in place to protect money movement and maintain trust across the financial system. ⚡ Modernisation across the payments landscape is accelerating rapidly. Listening to the fireside chat between Susan Hawkins, President and CEO, Payments Canada and François-Philippe Champagne, it was clear Canada is taking active strides toward digital-first solutions: Real-time rails, open banking and continued innovation are proving to be formidable forces driving transformation across North America’s payments ecosystem. The pace of change happening across the industry is truly remarkable, and it’s exciting to see how collaboration between financial institutions, regulators, fintechs and policymakers is helping shape the future of payments. Separately, it was also great to reconnect with the team and partner with Dougal Middleton to host a talent conversation as part of the NextGen fireside chat. Conversations around growth, leadership and creating opportunities for the next generation of talent are always incredibly energising. #JPMorganPayments #LeadingtheWay #NextGen #Team

From May 5 to May 7, DMaple participated in The The Payments Canada SUMMIT in Toronto, joining conversations around cross-border payments, payment infrastructure, and the growing role of stablecoins in modern financial systems. During the event, our CEO, Fedor Belomoev, joined by the team, spoke with fintech teams, payment providers, and infrastructure companies about simplifying international transfers and improving the cross-border payment experience. We met many people across the payments industry at the event and look forward to building on these connections as we continue developing DMaple. Special thanks to The SUMMIT team for creating such a valuable space for the payments community. #PaymentsCanada #Fintech #Stablecoins #CrossBorderPayments

Earlier this month I had the privilege to present at the The Payments Canada SUMMIT on the topic of “Future of cross-border payments”, diving deep into how the landscape is shifting towards real-time , always-on, friction-reduced, customer first mindset. Really thankful to be part of this panel, together with true subject matter experts, Martin Ho , Ramesh Jayakrishnan and John Hutton from whom I learned so much. Thanks for the great time, Canada, and to the BofA Canada team for the warm welcome 🇨🇦♥️! Can’t wait to do it again!

A little late with this one, but probably for the better. The Payments Canada SUMMIT in Toronto gave me enough notes and conversations to properly digest. Three intense days of sessions, meetings, and reality checks on where payments in Canada are heading. What stood out to me most: the market is definitely moving toward modernization, but not in a “move fast and break things” way. The focus is much more practical: real-time payments, fraud prevention, open banking, cross-border efficiency, AI in risk management, and clearer rules around digital assets and stablecoins. For me, the most valuable part was not just hearing where the industry is heading, but understanding what actually matters to banks, payment providers, fintechs, and infrastructure players when they evaluate new partnerships: regulatory clarity, strong compliance, local relevance, trust, and use cases that solve real problems - not just sound good on a slide. A very productive few days in Toronto, with useful reality checks, strong conversations, and a clearer view of where the real opportunities are. #PaymentsCanadaSUMMIT #Payments #Fintech #DigitalAssets #OpenBanking

Another The Payments Canada SUMMIT for the books! It’s always such a great experience to hear industry leaders share their vision for the future and see how we are collectively working on building a stronger payments system and better experiences for Canadians. This year was particularly special as I had a chance to speak on a panel about the journey to building Konek these past few years. A special thanks to Ted Vozzella (Scotiabank) for organizing and moderating this panel and Jessica (Gagner) Binnington (RBC) and Shenela Tavarayan (Interac Corp.) with whom it’s always such a pleasure to work with. Looking forward to what is ahead!

Are traditional delivery metrics limiting how organizations think about AI? One of the perspectives I shared at the @Payments Canada Summit on a panel facilitated by Oliver St Clair-Stannard alongside fellow panelists Sladjana J. Keith Ajmani was the tension between leading and lagging indicators in AI transformation. In many organizations, the pressure to measure progress through traditional delivery metrics can unintentionally push teams to apply AI within existing ways of working rather than creating space to experiment, prototype, and rethink what AI-assisted delivery could enable. Payment’s modernization remains highly manual and process-driven, with operating models not built for iterative, AI-assisted ways of working. At CIBC, we increasingly think about AI as a foundational layer of architecture, not simply another tool added into the workflow. I often think about it as the difference between adding a better GPS to a car and building an autonomous vehicle from the ground up. In practice, transformation requires elements of both. At the same time, scaling AI responsibly requires trust, governance, and resiliency to evolve alongside it. Embedding compliance, risk, and security into the process from the start is critical to maintaining the rigor required in banking while continuing to move with speed and intent. Thank you to RedCompass Labs for having me and supporting thoughtful discussion on the future of Payments, Tech delivery and AI.
