The US is sitting on a vast, untapped supply of lithium-rich brine that prevailing extraction methods can’t economically process. These brines are too dilute, too contaminant-heavy, or both. Sometimes, they are even re-injected back into the earth once other elements have been recovered from them. Lithios is piloting our Advanced Lithium Extraction (ALE) technology on real brine in the Southern US, with plans to expand operations following our recent selection for the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) SCALEUP Ready award. Places like Arkansas have been waiting for a technology to deliver on the promise of its underutilized lithium resource. Lower cost production is key. Through selective electrochemistry, ALE extracts lithium and leaves everything else behind. Minimal pre-treatment and downstream processing, and up to 40% lower costs. Last week, Lithios Senior Director of Strategy Oscar Turner and our go-to-market collaborator Joe Hicken had the opportunity to engage the Arkansas Congressional delegation and leaders at the United States Department of War and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to discuss how we can work together to scale up ALE in the Smackover Formation and reliably supply domestically produced lithium to the industries powering our future!

Wolf Greenfield has been a powerful partner to Lithios in building the IP portfolio needed to scale Advanced Lithium Extraction. We are grateful for the highlight of our recent award selection by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to expand our pilot manufacturing and unlock new domestic sources of lithium.
Client Spotlight: Lithios We are fortunate to work with clients across industries that are leaders in their fields. To highlight the work they are doing, we showcase client spotlights. The United States sits on enormous reserves of lithium-rich brine—but until now, most of it has been too dilute, too contaminated, or too costly to tap into. Meet the company that is changing that: Lithios. Founded by MIT scientists Mohammad A. Alkhadra, PhD, and Professor Martin Bazant, PhD, the Medford, Massachusetts-based company has built an electrochemical extraction system that pulls lithium directly from low-grade brines without chemicals or heavy water use and at up to 40% lower cost than competing technologies. In a market racing to secure domestic supply of the metal that powers everything from electric vehicles to grid-scale storage to defense systems, Lithios is a potential game-changer. In April 2026, Lithios hit its biggest milestone yet: selection for the Department of Energy’s ARPA-E SCALEUP-Ready program. 🔗Check out the full spotlight here: https://hubs.ly/Q04fxv6w0

Lithios has been selected as one of two projects for the U.S. Department of Energy's Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) SCALEUP Ready program! Designed to accelerate commercial scale-up of high-impact energy technologies, this critical federal program is at the forefront of strengthening domestic energy supply chains and American energy priorities. With the Department of Energy’s support, we'll scale our Advanced Lithium Extraction (ALE) technology to turn low-grade lithium brines into a valuable new domestic energy resource. This award is a major milestone in Lithios’s mission to expand the lithium supply. We're proud to be building the cost-superior solution that can unlock low-grade lithium resources to address demand from our energy, electronics, and defense industries. The world needs more lithium — but too much of it has been trapped in brines too contaminated and too dilute to develop economically. Until now. Our CEO Mohammad A. Alkhadra presented Lithios at CERAWeek 2026 last week — Monday in a pod presentation at the Innovation Agora, then at aramco House on Wednesday — making the case for our Advanced Lithium Extraction (ALE) technology as a solution to one of the energy transition's most pressing supply chain challenges. By going electrochemical, we can extract lithium from brines that have never been economically viable, dramatically expanding the global supply chain for the lithium that is essential to address our defense, energy, and advanced electronics industries. The response at CERAWeek confirmed what we've believed for a while: the market is ready for a lower-cost, higher-yield lithium supply chain. #Lithios #CERAWeek2025 #ALE #LithiumSupply #CriticalMinerals #InnovationAgora

Our CEO and Co-Founder Mohammad A. Alkhadra will be at CERAWeek presenting our Advanced Electrochemical Extraction (ALE) technology on Monday at 3pm. Key industry growth over the next five years will demand more lithium than we’ve made before in all of history. Yet so much of the valuable metal remains trapped in dilute or contaminant-heavy brines because traditional methods have been unable to economically capture it. Electrochemistry unlocks that and ushers lithium extraction into the future. Tune in to hear more: https://lnkd.in/eZPwCWbB #CERAWEEK #criticalminerals #cleanmanufacturing #lithium

What a great, far-ranging conversation between Lithios CEO and co-founder Mohammad A. Alkhadra and Chris Wedding ⚡ ! Listen to hear how Lithios's electrochemical approach unlocks lithium from novel brines, why a domestic lithium supply is critical for US energy security, and some less-discussed realities of building and scaling scaling an industrial hardware tech company. Thank you for the great conversation, Chris! Listen here: https://lnkd.in/d2ZKXXPU.
This CEO can extract lithium at 40% lower costs with electrochemistry. Hear his journey from MIT PhD to VC-backed founder with the best hairstyle. Lithios is an advanced materials company developing a high-performance electrochemical platform to unlock untapped lithium brine resources, especially those previously considered uneconomic due to low concentrations. Mohammad A. Alkhadra earned his PhD at MIT and then became an Activate Fellow to transition from academic to entrepreneur. In my Climate CEOs podcast with him, we covered the following: - Innovative Extraction: Lithios' technology processes brines with as low as 10 ppm lithium, redefining economic viability in resource extraction. - Strategic Alignment: By focusing on US projects, Lithios supports national lithium independence and aligns with systemic priorities to enhance credibility. - Supply Chain Efficiency: Lithios' method cuts costs by up to 40% and minimizes environmental impact, transforming global lithium supply dynamics. - Patience in Sales: With long development cycles, Lithios balances immediate equipment sales with future royalties, emphasizing strategic patience. - Entrepreneurial Mindset: Transitioning from academia, Lithios' founder leverages community support and embraces discomfort for real-world impact. - Community Support: Consistent routines, such as weightlifting, provide grounding for Lithios' leadership amid technological uncertainties. - Resource Innovation: Lithios' focus on US lithium supplies ties directly to economic growth and national security, beyond just environmentalism. - The Personal Side: You’ll appreciate his strong focus on family and community, and his dual love of weightlifting and kittens. Last night marked a major milestone as The Venture Center, in partnership with Standard Lithium, the Arkansas Economic Development Commission, and the University of Arkansas, and supported by Walton Family Foundation, hosted Demo Day for the second cohort of the Arkansas Lithium Technology Accelerator (ALTA), the nation’s first accelerator dedicated to lithium and battery supply chain innovation. The three-week program featured presentations from Tyfast, Menen Group, and Lithios, highlighting why Arkansas is a key state to scale lithium innovation and energy-tech solutions. Through ALTA, we are proud to bring industry leaders, investors, and technology companies together to strengthen Arkansas’ growing role in the energy-tech sector. “We are excited for ALTA to be part of Governor Sanders’ and Commerce Secretary Hugh McDonald’s strategy to build a lithium economy in the state,” said Arthur Orduña, Executive Director of The Venture Center. “The Venture Center partners with leading lithium producers to curate best-in-class technology companies that can help America build a lithium-ion battery supply chain independent of China, with Arkansas as a key upstream source.” The future of lithium is bright, and Demo Day showed just how much promise lies ahead! Thank you to our sponsors and partners who made this accelerator possible. Read the full press release here: https://lnkd.in/gyfV4W3B
