In a market racing to secure domestic supply of the metal that powers everything from electric vehicles to grid-scale storage to defense systems, Lithios is a potential game-changer. METAMAG Integrates Lanthanide Solutions to Secure Materials That Secure the Nation Metamagnetics Inc. (METAMAG), a veteran-owned defensetech fast growth company providing advanced RF and microwave solutions for mission-critical systems, today announced an agreement with Lanthanide Solutions Inc. (LSI), a security-cleared rare earth element (REE) recycling, recovery, and magnet manufacturing company to secure materials that secure the nation. The agreement extends METAMAG's mission beyond electromagnetic spectrum dominance into the critical materials foundation that makes those capabilities possible. Together, the two companies form a fully domestic, vertically integrated platform spanning advanced materials, magnetics, and RF system performance. METAMAG has built its reputation developing advanced materials and RF solutions that enhance the performance, resilience, and survivability of mission-critical systems in contested environments. The company now extends that leadership upstream — into the secure sourcing and production of rare earth materials essential to those technologies. Lanthanide Solutions brings a differentiated, non-mining approach to rare earth supply, leveraging defense-cleared end-of-life scrap streams and proprietary, low-waste recovery technologies to produce high-purity REE products. This model enables faster deployment, full material traceability, and reduced environmental impact relative to traditional mining and offshore processing. "Modern defense systems depend on both spectrum dominance and materials independence," said Dr. Vincent Harris, Founder and CEO of METAMAG. "With this acquisition, we are aligning those two realities — ensuring that the United States not only leads in advanced RF technologies but controls the materials supply chains that underpin them." The agreement directly addresses national security vulnerabilities tied to foreign dominance of rare earth mining, refining, and magnet production. By integrating LSI's circular materials platform with METAMAG's advanced magnetic materials and RF technologies, the combined company establishes a secure, domestic pipeline from material recovery to mission-ready systems. Metallium Ltd (ASX: MTM) has announced the successful completion of a 12-hour continuous Flash Joule Heating (FJH) reactor campaign at its Gator Point Technology Campus in Texas. The campaign demonstrated stable, repeatable and controlled operation of Metallium's commercial-scale FJH reactor platform, validating key process assumptions, reactor integrity, automation systems and operating procedures ahead of planned multi-reactor deployment. The results materially reduce technical and operational scale-up risk as Metallium advances toward its next major milestone of operating multiple FJH reactors simultaneously in parallel, which forms the basis of the company's modular throughput expansion strategy. Initial commissioning results have exceeded internal expectations, providing important early insights into potential reactor throughput uplift versus original design assumptions. The extended continuous operation represents a significant industrialisation milestone, validating reactor durability, process stability, automation systems and repeatability under sustained operating conditions. These outcomes are expected to support ongoing throughput optimisation, reactor refinement and broader process integration activities as Metallium progresses toward its Stage-1 commercial-scale e-waste processing capacity target during Q4 2026. Metallium has also appointed experienced metallurgist Rod Lawry to its Technical Advisory Team, further strengthening the company's technical capabilities as it advances its technology development, scale-up and commercial deployment. With a theoretical specific energy approaching 2600 Wh kg⁻¹, sulfur’s abundance, and low materials cost, the appeal is obvious. Yet despite enormous academic and industrial interest, conventional Li–S batteries remain commercially elusive. The core reason is not sulfur itself—but the liquid electrolyte. A growing body of research now points toward all-solid-state lithium–sulfur batteries (ASSLSBs) as a credible path forward. Excited to share our latest work published in ACS Energy Letters-and our second sulfur paper this year: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/emErWYnh In lithium–sulfur batteries, managing polysulfides remains one of the central challenges—especially under high-loading and lean-electrolyte conditions. In this study, we designed a separator coating with tuned adsorption strength toward polysulfides: * Strong enough to retain them on the cathode side and suppress shuttling * Yet sufficiently dynamic to release them during Li₂S formation This balance is critical and enables improved cycling performance under practically relevant conditions. On the fundamental side, this work provides a deeper look into transport processes in Li–S systems. Using EIS combined with DRT analysis, and a carefully designed series of symmetric cells, we were able to directly track the evolution of transport behavior throughout cycling. Huge credit to our first author Seungmin Lee for leading both the experimental design and the data interpretation with impressive rigor. We are also grateful for the collaboration with beamline scientist Dominik Wierzbicki and colleagues at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, including Dongping Lu, Cassidy Anderson, and Lili Shi. Can we design fusion power plants that also manage their own fuel? One of the most significant hurdles for commercial fusion energy is tritium, a rare and radioactive isotope essential for many fusion reactions. A plant must produce its own tritium to operate sustainably. General Fusion's magnetized target fusion approach uses a liquid metal liner designed to absorb energy, shield components, and breed tritium from lithium. New research from a U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory supports this design, suggesting it could require less tritium to start up and efficiently produce enough fuel for subsequent plants. This advancement promises not only to accelerate fusion deployment but also to enhance energy security by creating self-sufficient fuel cycles. However, scaling such complex systems and ensuring the safety and economic viability of tritium breeding remain critical challenges. ⚡Can electrochemistry really happen at a gas interface? In our latest paper, we explored this question by investigating electron transfer at gas–liquid interfaces using ultramicroelectrodes and surface-active redox molecules. Our approach allowed us to: ✅ Probe electrochemical activity at a confined gas interface ✅ Reveal how interfacial structure influences electron transfer ✅ Provide insights into transport and reactivity in these complex systems 🫧 The beauty of this system lies in its simplicity: a tiny gas bubble becomes a platform to study electrochemistry beyond traditional solid electrodes, opening new perspectives for interfacial science and energy-related processes.
