Building the future powered by aluminum

About us

Found Energy is building rechargeable aluminum fuel power systems aimed at eliminating carbon emissions from heavy industrial applications ranging from industrial heating (7% of global CO2 emissions) to maritime shipping (3% of global CO2 emissions). Building off technology developed at MIT that enables metallic aluminum to split water, our energy delivery systems safely generate hydrogen and/or industrial heat on-site at >5x the volumetric energy density of liquid hydrogen, >3x that of methanol and ammonia, and >25x that of Li-ion batteries. By integrating storage, transport, and generation into a single package, our technology solves some of the biggest pain points in renewable energy transmission and storage. At Found Energy, we believe in securing a livable and equitable future for our planet, and we are looking for partners who are motivated by this goal to join us.

New mineral processing technology could help a Canadian junior unlock vital US domestic gallium and germanium production at an operating Utah fluorspar mine in a project backed by Department of Energy minerals and energy innovation funding. Vancouver-based ARES Strategic Mining Inc. this week signed a memorandum of understanding with Boston start-up Found Industries to assess the use of Found’s proprietary Direct Feedstock Extraction technology at the Lost Sheep mine in Juab County, which Ares acquired in 2020. Found was started by Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) mechanical engineering PhD and former NASA propulsion-fuel researcher Peter Godart, who invented an aluminium-water energy system in his Charlestown basement and then came up with a new way to extract gallium from Bayer liquor and other industrial feedstocks to “future-proof what we were doing” with aluminium. We’re excited to share that Found Industries, through our Found Metals division, has signed an MOU with ARES Strategic Mining Inc. to evaluate recovery of gallium, germanium, and other strategic critical materials from feedstocks associated with ARES’ Lost Sheep Mine in Utah. Lost Sheep is the only currently permitted fluorspar mine in the United States. Together, we’ll explore how Found’s Direct Feedstock Extraction™ platform could help expand the value of this domestic resource base and support more resilient North American supply chains for semiconductors, defense systems, energy technologies, and advanced manufacturing. Critical materials security is increasingly a processing challenge as much as a mining challenge. Domestic resources, byproducts, leachates, and complex feedstocks can become strategic production platforms when paired with selective, scalable extraction technology. We’re proud to work with ARES on this next step toward domestic critical metals capacity. Full announcement in the comments. #CriticalMinerals #Gallium #Germanium #Fluorspar #DomesticSupplyChains #AdvancedManufacturing #MiningTechnology #FoundMetals

Thrilled to share that Found Industries is joining HILT CRC as an Affiliate Partner. HILT CRC has built one of the most important collaborative ecosystems for decarbonising heavy industry — bringing together industry, research, and government to help sectors like alumina, aluminium, steel, iron, cement, and lime stay globally competitive through the low-carbon transition. At Found Industries, we’re excited to contribute our expertise across three areas that sit at the heart of that challenge: 1. End-of-life aluminium recovery and industrial waste beneficiation 2. Clean industrial heat using aluminium metal as a low-carbon fuel 3. Critical metals recovery, including gallium from industrial process streams We see a major opportunity to help alumina and aluminium producers improve competitiveness, strengthen materials supply chains, reduce waste liabilities, and unlock new value from process streams already moving through existing industrial assets. Looking forward to working with the broader HILT CRC ecosystem, including Australian Aluminium Council, Alcoa, Rio Tinto, South32, Norsk Hydro, Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), CSIRO, University of Adelaide, Swinburne University of Technology, Worley, and The Australian National University, to help accelerate practical, scalable pathways for low-carbon metals production. Thanks to the HILT CRC team for the warm welcome. Excited to get to work.

We’re honored to be featured in MIT News as we enter our next chapter as Found Industries. What began as Found Energy — building aluminum fuel systems to turn the world's most abundant and energy dense metal into clean, dispatchable power — has grown into a broader mission: strengthening America’s industrial supply chains from the ground up. With the launch of Found Metals, we’re expanding our platform to recover critical metals like gallium from domestic feedstocks, helping reduce reliance on foreign-controlled supply chains for materials essential to defense, semiconductors, and energy. Thank you to Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT News, and Zach Winn for telling the story of how Found Industries is building resilient, domestic supply chains for the next generation of American industry. Big day for us at Found. Over the past year, we’ve been quietly building a new platform to meet the moment on alleviating critical supply chain bottlenecks. On the heels of receiving our U.S. Department of Energy Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation TRACE-Ga award to help restore gallium production in the West, we’re now ready to share two major steps forward: the launch of our Found Metals division and the rebranding of our parent company as Found Industries. For me, this is less about changing who we are and more about putting the right name to what our company has become against a new global reality. What started with metal fuels for us has grown into a broader opportunity across critical materials, refining, and industrial supply chains. That’s now reflected in two connected efforts: Found Metals, focused on critical metals extraction and refining, and Found Energy, continuing to advance our metal fuels platform and energy systems. Internally, we think about this as vertical integration and co-productization, building control across both the materials and energy layers of the system so each can reinforce the other. I’m especially grateful to our team and partners for the incredible work getting us here. This moment is a direct result of their relentless pace, creativity, and persistence over the past year. We still have a lot to do, but I’m proud of what we’re building and excited to share more of it publicly. Stay tuned! #FoundIndustries #FoundMetals #FoundEnergy #Gallium #CriticalMinerals #CriticalMetals #IndustrialInnovation #Manufacturing #EnergyTransition #AIInfrastructure

Today, we’re excited to share two major announcements: 1) we are introducing Found Industries as our new parent company, and 2) launching Found Metals, a new division focused on critical metals extraction and refining alongside Found Energy. These updates reflect the next step in our evolution into a broader industrial platform addressing critical bottlenecks across both materials and energy. Found Metals will focus on critical metals extraction and refining, beginning with gallium and other necessary inputs to AI and power infrastructure. Found Energy will continue advancing our metal fuels platform and energy systems. Both divisions are built on a shared technical foundation in hydrometallurgy, electrochemistry, and industrial process engineering, and on a common belief that the next generation of industrial infrastructure will come from unlocking value in existing systems and feedstocks. This launch comes at an important moment for the company. The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Critical Minerals and Energy Innovation recently announced our TRACE-Ga award to support our work in restoring gallium production in the West, and we are actively building strategic partnerships across the supply chain to accelerate this effort. As demand rises across semiconductors, power electronics, communications, AI infrastructure, and defense, resilient domestic and allied supply chains for critical materials have never mattered more. We believe these supply chains and the future of energy are deeply interconnected. Found Industries is built to operate at that intersection. • For our team, 2025 has been a year of tremendous effort and record progress as we built and commissioned the world's largest Catalyzed Aluminum-Water Reactor—and we have even more exciting developments on the horizon for 2026. Recently, we took a moment to celebrate our accomplishments, as well as the strong bonds formed at Found, with an in-office Friendsgiving potluck lunch. Everyone participated by preparing and bringing their favorite Thanksgiving or seasonal dishes to share and enjoy together. You might call it the calm before the storm (of amazing things to come!)
