For a new broker, the most valuable thing a carrier can offer isn’t capacity. It’s curiosity. The biggest thing I took away from two days at BIBA with Post Assurance Brokers Limited UK wasn’t about commission, products, or rates. It was about the difference a positive, growth-minded individual can make to a business. Those who lean in, stand out. They ask about the community first. They want to understand the founders, the pipeline, the why. They talk about how to build something together and they’re patient enough to let the conversation grow. For a new broker building for an underserved community, those individuals are gold. They don’t just enable the business; they help shape what it will become. Having spent most of my career carrier-side, I know how hard the balance is. New-entrant risk is real. Year-one targets exist for good reasons. But sitting on the other side of the table this week, with PABL, I saw clearly how much a small shift in posture, curiosity before commitment, partnership before paperwork, changes the experience for a broker. The FCA is asking the market to do better for underserved consumers. That work starts with the brokers serving those communities, and the brokers serving those communities start with the carriers and networks who’ll back them. Walking through the doors at BIBA yesterday as the CEO of my own company, I expected to feel proud. What I couldn’t have imagined was the chance to share that moment alongside three men Lekan Ajisafe Titus Ayodele Anthony Faleye - FCA, ACA(ICAEW) who’ve spent two years building something no one else has. Post Assurance Brokers Limited. The first FCA-authorised UK broker built for the Nigerian and West African community. The FCA has been clear: the market needs to do better on access for underserved consumers. Most firms are still working out what that means. PABL already is.
