In 2023, West Monroe helped DTE Energy and Consumers Energy file a proposal for a benefit-cost analysis (BCA) framework for use in evaluating prospective pilot programs. Now in 2026, congratulations to ICF, Recurve, and NASEO - National Association of State Energy Officials (NESP) for launching the OpenBCA, a real-time tool to model various DER investments and determine societal value. This tool can scale to other jurisdictions and most importantly demonstrates the collaboration of many companies all playing a role in the clean energy transition! Reposting this because it really matters for anyone working in the C&I energy space. The commercial and industrial sector is hitting a real turning point in the energy transition and the potential of C&I DER needs to be unlocked. Solar, storage, flexible loads, microgrids… they’re now core to how businesses stay competitive, resilient and on track for decarbonisation. The Smart Energy Council has kicked off a new C&I DER Insights Project to capture what’s actually happening on the ground; what’s working, what’s not, and where policy needs to catch up. This national survey is important to gather insights from people who live and breathe this stuff every day. If you’re in tech, integration, operations, finance or project delivery in the C&I space, your experience is exactly what’s needed.
