Climate tech isn’t coming someday. It’s already deciding who pulls ahead and who gets left behind. 🌎 While some are still debating the future, others are building it now through carbon removal, methane reduction, smarter grids, renewables, and next-gen energy systems. That gap? It’s widening by the day. ⚡ Faster movers ⚡ Smarter operators ⚡ Stronger businesses This is the marquee event of Calgary Climate Week. And it’s almost here. The Executive Forum brings decision-makers into the room to unpack how climate-focused businesses are gaining real competitive advantage, improving productivity, and driving the bottom line. Seats are limited. Time is tight. Be in the room, this isn't one you want to miss. Very interesting presentation by former European Commissioner for Climate Action, Connie Hedegaard, at LOOP Forum. A few takeaways: 1. We are now facing the second energy crisis in just a few years. 2. While a small group of sceptics will always exist, the majority of people understand the need for safe, secure and affordable energy. 3. Political focus often shifts to short‑term crises like war or pandemics, while the climate crisis continues to accelerate — with new records being broken almost every month. 4. If Europe is serious about the energy transition, we must invest significantly more in grid capacity and cross‑border connections to fully unlock renewable energy. A timely and important reminder that long‑term resilience requires action now, not later. #EnergyTransition #ClimateAction #RenewableEnergy #Vestas

A new study highlights the trade off between investing in carbon removal and reducing emissions at source. 💨🌱 Analysis in the US suggests that, per dollar invested, solar and wind provide greater overall climate and health benefits than direct air capture through to 2050, even under improved performance scenarios. The findings point to opportunity cost as a key factor, with carbon removal playing a different role that becomes more relevant once emissions have been significantly reduced. The research reinforces the importance of prioritising emission reduction alongside longer term removal strategies. #EnergyTransition #CarbonRemoval #RenewableEnergy #Climate

Together with Planetary Guardians and The B Team, we are launching a new report on accelerating the transition away from fossil fuels. With seven of nine planetary boundaries already breached and significant public finance still supporting fossil fuels, the current system continues to reinforce planetary and price instability. You don’t tackle a fossil fuel crisis by investing in more fossil fuels. We have to end fossil fuel subsidies and embrace renewable freedom. Renewable Freedom outlines a pathway to redirect finance, scale clean energy and build more resilient and equitable economies. 🔗 Read the full report: https://lnkd.in/eCHx4Few #RenewableFreedom #EnergyTransition #ClimateLeadership

Thinking about decarbonizing and increasing your community's #climate resilience? There are several approaches to consider, like adding battery storage to a solar installation or building a microgrid. Microgrids combine #RenewableEnergy sources and on-site storage to create a resilient alternative to the main electrical grid, facilitating greater energy independence and community benefits. Our team of experts will guide you step by step through the process, from scoping through design to implementation. We’re your advisor at every step in the process: we find solutions, conquer barriers, and guide successful climate justice projects from start to finish. Saw this picture recently from the West Coast Climate Action Network newsletter, and it made me reflect on the direction we’re heading. With current global events (like tensions around the Strait of Hormuz), energy security and diversification feel more relevant than ever. At the same time, the transition from fossil fuels to clean energy is complex and takes time. Currently, oil and gas still account for a large share of global energy use, which shows that we still need to balance short-term realities with long-term goals. We know the shift isn’t happening overnight, but through gradual investment and system change that allows for : • balancing immediate energy needs with long-term sustainability • investing in renewable energy and resilient infrastructure • supporting workers and communities through the transition As I continue my journey in environmental practice, I’m interested in how local actions can contribute to this broader shift. How do you see this transition playing out in your work or community? #Sustainability #ClimateAction #EnergyTransition #CleanEnergy #CircularEconomy #EarthDay

Appreciated the opportunity to be involved in this event with Electricity Networks Aotearoa and ERGANZ. While the energy sector is facing some significant challenges, the opportunity for a more productive and resilient economy is significant. Thanks to everyone who braved the cold Wellington weather to join us at this event. It was great to bring together a wide cross section of stakeholders (in the environs of Parliament) to chat about the opportunities, challenges and trade-offs. And finally, a shout out for the great resource that is Powering Change https://lnkd.in/g-ftqRh2 which includes reporting (see https://lnkd.in/d4T6U-qS) on how we (the royal we) are tracking on the energy transition journey, the Energy Transition Framework and its work programme (see https://lnkd.in/dB4VG6H7).
💠"𝗜 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗺. 💠We need more electricity for homes and businesses. 💠Low-cost indigenous natural gas is rapidly declining. 💠We are firm fuel short. 💠Investment is landing all at once... 💠New generation is needed. 💠Transmission needs upgrading. 💠Local networks need renewal. 💠Everything must be more resilient to climate impacts. 💠And the cost of doing business has gone up. 💠That investment is required. 💠𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺." This is what our chair Nigel Barbour said last night at a networking event for the energy sector and key stakeholders. It was the start of many conversations about how we can keep the transition going, while making energy as affordable as possible. A very hard balance, but arguably the most important. And one that the Energy Transition Framework is trying to grapple with. Ngā mihi nui to the team at ERGANZ for once again partnering with us on this annual event. And thank you to Minister Cameron Brewer for coming to speak with our sector. And most importantly, thank you to everyone who came (and braved the cold Wellington weather!) to join us.
