Matt Landers reposted thisMatt Landers reposted this🚨 Big change(s) coming to Google Tag Manager (web) 🚨 At Google Marketing Live (May 21st), GTM is getting its most significant update in years. Short version: Google Tag Manager containers will (finally) be Google Tags. This is significant on many different levels, but let's start with some clarifications: 1. This DOESN'T mean that GTM will start collecting data to GA4 / Ads / Floodlight automatically 2. This DOESN'T mean that you HAVE to use Google products with GTM 3. GTM will keep working as before. The upgrade is something you opt into. Under the hood, Google Tag and GTM have always been closely related. Until now, GTM has kinda stagnated while Google Tag development has flourished. Merging Google Tag and GTM development means that Google can work on GTM updates without compromising their own priorities with Google Tag. 📣 "Legacy" Google Tags become Destinations 📣 The most important update is an upgrade flow that you can opt into. When you upgrade the GTM container, it will effectively become a Google Tag. Any "legacy" Google Tags in the container can be migrated to "Destinations" of the GTM container. Adding Destinations means that GTM will no longer need to load additional gtag.js files per destination(!!!). Everything is handled through the container JS. This will save bandwidth and browser resources quite a bit. Destinations also means that you'll have a centralized set of Google Tag Settings in the GTM container. These settings will apply to *all* destinations added to the container. You can still override individual settings per destination in the Google product tags themselves, but this centralized setup certainly makes everything more consistent across Google's tagging products. If you want to keep going with the old flow (separate settings, additional library loads), you can keep using the (legacy) Google Tags in GTM. 📣 UI updates 📣 In addition to the upgrade flow being added to the GTM UI, the heavily underutilized "Overview" page in GTM will be updated to support this new architecture. Additionally, you'll find that the side menu will hide some items behind an "Advanced" menu to reduce clutter. Power users might not be happy about this, as it adds an additional click to your normal workflows. Google is also introducing a visual event builder tool, which lets you walk through a conversion flow on your actual website and automatically generate tags, triggers, and variables based on interactions with key elements. It's similar to the WYSIWYG editors many CRO tools have had for years. 📣 Preview, test, and roll back 📣 Nothing will change automatically. You'll be prompted to upgrade each container, and you can: 1. Preview everything, 2. Test in a workspace, 3. Roll back in needed. This also applies to the new "Settings" model in GTM. ---------- I know this will raise a LOT of questions, so please share them in the comments and I'll answer them to the best of my ability.

Matt Landers liked thisMatt Landers liked thisNever imagined I’d say the word “quadrillion” in a keynote, but here we are. Reflecting on I/O, it's easy to look at the massive numbers, 3.2 quadrillion tokens a month, 13 products with over a billion users and see just engineering scale. But for me, the true measure of our progress is much closer to home. I’ve been using Gemini in a lot of different ways recently, one of the most meaningful has been using it to make sense of my parents’ doctor visits. I know many of you have likely used technology to navigate similar family moments. When a frantic parent can type a chaotic query into Maps because their kid fell into a muddy puddle 30 minutes before a wedding, or when you’re able to quickly draft a last minute presentation for work using only your voice, that’s when technology becomes truly helpful. To the 8.5 million developers building on our platforms every month: thank you. You are taking these models and turning them into real solutions. We are firmly in our agentic era, and there is still so much work to do. Spending time on the ground at Shoreline with developers, creators, and our teams reminds me exactly why we build. What caught your eye from I/O?

Matt Landers liked thisMatt Landers liked thisThat feeling when things are clicking, tracked revenue is up and a campaign is crushing, but you have a hard time explaining WHY it worked and replicating its success. 🤔 In the AI era, guessing isn’t an option. Neil Patel explains his 3-pronged approach that actually works: 📶 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵: Consolidate all of your data through Data Manager, where all sources connect. From there activate Google tag gateway to protect your signals. 📏 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀: Consumer journeys are complex and a sale isn't a single moment — it's a process. Having always-on ways to measure causality are key. 🔂 𝗔 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗻𝗲𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆: And that single view is our open-source MMM, Meridian, that paints one clear picture of performance to gain clarity on what’s truly working and to cut what isn’t. If your MCP just wraps existing APIs, it’s time to rethink. MCPs should be built for LLMs—resolve ambiguity, handle name matching, and return what the AI really needs. Don’t force multi-step calls or vague errors. One intent, one call—build smarter, not harder. #MCP #LLM #AI #ProductDesign #DevEx

This is a great experiment by the Anthropic team, showcasing the "true autonomous" capabilities of LLMs. By "true autonomous," I mean that Anthropic (I believe) purposefully did not bombard the LLM with numerous tools in areas where LLMs are weak. For example, LLMs are not good in math, and performance would have been much better if they hd provided a tool like "calculate_profitability." This might have prevented the $100 opportunity miss. In AI agent development, tools bridge the gap where LLMs are not "deterministic." This is currently the MOAT in the GenAI app business: the better your tools, the more deterministic results you can provide. Only till LLMs can write their own tools on the fly and execute them where they know they are weak and using deterministic softwares (tools) to fill these gaps. https://lnkd.in/gMk3VRJv

A topic I will be watching closely in 2026 will be cost efficiency improvements for agents and AI. Over the fall, we saw a number of new efficiency features across the training, model, and agent layers. But in addition to new technologies from the likes of MongoDB (embedded models), Microsoft (AI Foundry), and Amazon Web Services (AWS) (Bedrock AgentCore), we should also expect some vendors to pass their own savings from efficiency gains back to customers. It looks like GitHub got the memo with this little holiday gift. #Github #agents #Microsoft https://lnkd.in/eiBBkxe2

We open sourced our PII Classifier. The version of our PII model that we're open sourcing today has a 98% recall of potential PII conversations in English text on Roblox. The model has also achieved an F1 score of 94% on our production data, outperforming other state-of-the-art safety models, like LlamaGuard v3 8B (28%) and Piiranha NER (14%). Excited for the community to use it and hear feedback !

Insightful guide on building multi-agentic meta-tooling systems using AWS Strands SDK . It's fascinating to see how Strands simplifies the orchestration of specialized AI agents, leveraging models like Claude 4 Sonnet and Opus to tackle complex financial analyses. The ability to seamlessly integrate multiple agents for tasks like fundamental, technical, and market analysis showcases the potential of collaborative AI systems. How might this approach transform other industries beyond finance? https://lnkd.in/evcKaYx8 #MultiAgentSystems #AWSStrands #GenerativeAI

The voice AI industry has fundamentally misunderstood its own product-market fit. We're obsessing over conversational sophistication while failing at basic speech synthesis. These "performance barriers" Rishav calls out aren't technical limitations; they're the predictable result of prioritizing flashy demos over robust engineering. Companies won't adopt voice agents not because the technology isn't ready, but because vendors have consistently oversold capabilities while underdelivering on reliability. It’s about time someone said it out loud: the barriers to building RELIABLE voice AI (with stats). Here it out 👇

Building on top of large language models is fun, but getting consistent performance and reliability is extremely challenging. I love this post from Kimberly Patron about how Sierra uses health and performance-based traffic routing and request hedging to get meaningfully better performance and tail latency from high scale LLMs https://lnkd.in/g4qWRCb5

The simultaneous emergence of Claude Cowork and Clawdbot (now rebranded as Moltbot) is a clear signal of where consumer AI is headed this year: genuine end-user productivity through semi-autonomous agents. The days of purely prompt-based, one-shot results are giving way to systems that can handle real, ongoing work based on high-level requests. These tools are starting simple, but their trajectory is unmistakable: they will likely evolve quickly into capable digital assistants running 24/7. If recent AI trends hold, most of us will soon dedicate at least one (if not several) always-on machines or cloud instances to handling our routine personal and professional chores. This shift could free up significant time and mental energy, allowing us to focus on higher-leverage activities with far greater returns. Security, however, remains the single biggest hurdle. Granting AI agents access to local files, email, calendars, or messaging apps introduces real risks such as prompt injection, data leakage, unintended deletions, or worse. While tools like Cowork use sandboxes and careful permissions, and self-hosted options like Moltbot keep data local, vulnerabilities persist and demand vigilance. For now, the wisest path is cautious experimentation: start small, isolate sensitive data, monitor closely, and contribute feedback to help shape safer, more reliable agents. These early steps are opening exciting new chapters for everyday users. AI, it appears, won't just answer questions, but will truly work alongside us.
