Today is World IBD Day, and my co-founder John Capodilupo wrote something I think everyone should read. There are two things you need to know about John: 1/ Before joining Throne Science, John was co-founder and CTO of WHOOP, where he pioneered wearables and popularized metrics now used by millions, like HRV and sleep scores. 2/ Ten years ago, he was diagnosed with pancolitis, the most severe form of ulcerative colitis. I've said it a thousand times, and I'll say it a thousand times more: there is no one who more perfectly understands the value and importance of what we are building than John Capodilupo. Throne sits at the exact intersection of his personal and professional life. As you read John's blog, you will find he is a gifted and empathetic writer. He brings that same empathy to every decision he makes that shapes Throne. Throne is not a medical device and it's not a substitute for traditional care. But for the millions of people living with IBD, and the many more who simply want to understand their gut, we believe the toilet is the most underutilized data surface in the home. Grateful to build this with John. Read his piece here, and if you can, support the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation today. https://lnkd.in/gCydvWvB

We launched Throne Science just 3 weeks ago and are already seeing meaningful behavior change. 2 in 3 Throne users improve their hydration within their first 2 weeks. That's incredible. Even better, the users who need it most improve the most. The bottom 30% of hydrators improved by +5.3 points within their first 2 weeks — and 73% of that cohort saw improvement. This is *exactly* why we built Throne – to give people awareness they didn't have before!!! Hats off John Capodilupo for this incredibly cool analysis. This is just the beginning. More to come. And if you wanna improve your hydration, use THRONIE at checkout 🤫

We have wearables to track our cardio and sleep. We have CGMs to track our metabolic health. But when it comes to gut health, hydration, and urinary health — we've been completely in the dark. Today, that changes. Throne One is the first device that automatically tracks your gut health, hydration, bathroom habits, and urinary health — hands-free, every time you go. No logging. No samples. No friction. Today, Throne launches publicly. Listen to your gut.

  • We’re thrilled to welcome Dr Karan Rajan as Throne’s Chief of Science. For almost three years, we’ve been quietly building Throne with a simple belief: health becomes easier to understand when the signals from your own body are finally visible. Every toilet session contains meaningful information about hydration, digestion, and the rhythms of your gut that most people don’t know how to interpret. Throne exists to change that. Earlier this year, we met someone who had been thinking about this exact idea for years. From our very first conversation, it felt like we were speaking the same language. He approached gut health with curiosity, warmth, and scientific rigor, and he described the kind of product he wished had existed during medical school—one that could analyze waste effortlessly and help people understand their bodies in a more meaningful way. That person was Dr. Karan. His experience as a GI surgeon, his depth of scientific knowledge, and his ability to make health feel human made this partnership feel inevitable. He recognizes the same promise we do: small, everyday signals can guide better choices, support long-term wellness, and help people feel more connected to what’s happening inside their bodies. As Chief of Science, he’ll help us interpret what Throne sees with even more clarity and help make our insights feel supportive rather than clinical. His influence will shape how we communicate about digestion, hydration, urinary flow, and daily bathroom patterns, ensuring our explanations feel intuitive and grounded in real human experience. For Throne members, this means insights that feel clearer, guidance that feels more relatable, and a product that continues to evolve with a blend of rigorous science, everyday empathy, and a healthy dose of fun. Our shared belief is simple: gut health shouldn’t feel mysterious, hydration shouldn’t be an afterthought, and caring for your body shouldn’t require guesswork. We couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead. Welcome to Throne, Dr. Karan. We’re just getting started. Podcast links below 👇

I loved reading the blog that Crohn's & Colitis Foundation just published to highlight John Capodilupo (link at bottom!!👇👇) I’ve said this many times, and will a billion times more: there is simply not a more perfect partner to help Throne reinvent continuous health tracking than John Capodilupo. He pioneered the category once already with WHOOP. And he brings a level of empathy to our user that you can't manufacture because *he is the user.* He’s lived the uncertainty, the trial-and-error, the reality of managing inflammatory bowel disease. His story is exactly why we’re doing this work. Give it a read here: https://lnkd.in/gnwHcuqa Building Throne alongside John is one of the great privileges of my life. Turning a daily routine into continuous insight is a personal mission that will soon benefit millions of people who deserve better tools and better answers. I couldn't be more proud you chose to work with Timothy and I, John. Thank you.

My TED talk just went live – The History and Power of Poop For most of human history, we looked at our waste to understand our bodies. That practice fell out of favor with the rise of modern plumbing. Your waste has wisdom. We’ve just stopped listening. This talk is my case for why that needs to change, and why we're building Throne. If this resonates, please give it a watch, like, comment, and share. https://lnkd.in/g4M3QQyq

The forgotten sanctuary: your toilet. Let’s be honest, many of us turn this moment into a tiny productivity slot. A quick scroll on socials. A rushed reply to an “urgent” email. Or that diplomatic “yes, we’d love to come for Sunday lunch with the in-laws.” But what if this moment was sacred? This is when our body releases what it no longer needs. When we quite literally return to Earth the residues of yesterday’s experience. If our attention is on the screen rather than our sensations, we miss a free health checkup. The texture, color, and frequency of our stools reveal the balance of our diet. The shade of our urine reflects our hydration. The sensations in our body tell us how relaxed or tense our nervous system really is. It’s not glamorous, but it’s pure wisdom. Your toilet break is a mirror of your inner ecosystem. And there’s a deeper layer here too. How often do you actually listen when your body whispers: “It’s time”? One of my great-great-grandfathers died of a urinary infection after years of “holding it in”, literally, because he spent his days accompanying the Pope and preferred protocol over listening to his body needs. His story now reminds me daily that sovereignty starts with honoring our most basic needs. And for those who feel a sudden calling to explore this sanctuary further, the startup Throne has created an AI-powered toilet sensor that analyzes your stool and provides a health report. The age of embodied data has arrived.
