Grateful to join Steel Manufacturers Association steelmaker Jason Alexander of Optimus Steel LLC today before the U.S. House Committee on Ways & Means as he shared how the Working Families Tax Cuts are helping him and his wife save to start a family. The Working Families Tax Cuts, especially No Tax on Overtime, are delivering real relief for steelmaking families across the country, helping hardworking Americans keep more of what they earn and strengthening the communities they call home. America’s infrastructure is Made of Steel. The Steel Manufacturers Association sent a letter to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in support of the BUILD America 250 Act. Steel is the essential material of infrastructure, and the investments proposed in this five-year surface transportation reauthorization will support America’s steelmakers. #America250 #MadeOfSteel
Today, Jason Alexander, a millwright at SMA member Optimus Steel LLC testified before the House Ways & Means Committee on the impact of the Working Families Tax Cuts on steelmakers and their families. SMA applauds Congress and President Trump for advancing policies that put American workers first and strengthen domestic manufacturing. “Workers like Jason are the backbone of our economy, and policies that allow them to keep more of what they earn help strengthen families, communities, and the critical industries that power our nation,” said SMA EVP Brandon Farris https://lnkd.in/d87EJCUW
Congratulations, Robert Simon and JSW Steel USA Baytown! And thank you again for hosting the SMA Safety Committee and the SMA Human Resources Committee at your mill last month.
Two weeks ago I stood in front of the Steel Manufacturers Association Safety Committee in Houston and talked about what we're building at JSW USA. This week, the number came in for JSW's Baytown facility: 1,000,000 man-hours without a lost workday injury. This achievement took tremendous effort and a commitment to our vision of providing the safest workplace for our teammates. This took Darrell Harden having the hard conversation with someone who cut a corner. It required Christie Perrett, Leticia Garcia, Javier Balderas, Mark Marquez, Ron Arreola, and Dawn Covington showing up every shift knowing the standard doesn't move. And it required every single operator on that floor making the same choice, every single day. They understood the vision, followed the processes, and bought into the insight the safety team built the program around. That is what our values look like when they are working. A million hours is 2,000 shifts and this team showed up to 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 of them. Steel manufacturing is not a forgiving environment. The work is physical, the equipment is uncompromising, and the margin for error is small. What this team has built took patience, discipline, and genuine care for the people on that floor. These are the husbands, mothers, sons, and daughters of our community. #BetterEveryDay (Pictured from l - r: Baytown's Ron Arreola, Darrel Hardin, Letita Garcia, Vinay Sharma, Mark Marquez, Christie Perrett.)

President Trump’s visit to China came at a critical moment for American manufacturing and American workers. For decades, China has pursued a deliberate strategy to dominate global manufacturing, especially in steel and other critical industries. Through massive state subsidies, weak environmental standards, and exploitative labor practices, China produces far more steel than its own economy can absorb, flooding global markets and undermining producers across the world. President Trump’s willingness to confront China’s steel overcapacity head-on is one of the major reasons America’s steelmaking communities have rallied around his policies. The policies reflect a fundamental truth: rebuilding American industry is not just an economic imperative, it is a national security priority and a matter of restoring pride, dignity, and opportunity to working-class communities.
