Spread the word: Self-screening saves lives.🎗️ In a collaborative study with Samaritan Health Services, College of Health - Oregon State University Associate Professor Veronica Irvin and her team recorded in-depth interviews with women who had experienced interval breast cancer. Their research found that symptoms were all first discovered by the woman, 75% of whom noticed a lump or cyst during a self-breast exam or when dressing. After noticing symptoms, most women in her study reached out to their care provider; however, others waited out of worry they would be seen as "overreacting." “The bottom line is to schedule your mammogram, perform self-checks, prioritize your health, and resist putting yourself last," Veronica said.
