Big congrats to our very own Jim Shaheen on his latest publication in Behavioral Health News! 👏 A few 🔑 takeaways from his article on Medicare’s IOP expansion: • Over 6M Medicare beneficiaries are living with substance use disorders • Demand for IOP services is already surging, clear proof of unmet need 📈 • Access to care = better outcomes AND lower overall healthcare costs 💡 • Overdose deaths among older adults have risen dramatically; this work is urgent 🚨 Bottom line: Recovery works when coverage does. Jim continues to be a driving force in expanding access and improving lives in addiction treatment. We're grateful for his leadership in this space. 🙏 👉 Read the full article and join the conversation: https://lnkd.in/eKTDJ3gx #BehavioralHealth #AddictionRecovery #HealthcarePolicy #MentalHealthMatters #Leadership

🚐💙 Exciting Update! Our Midcoast Maine-based mobile treatment unit is making a huge impact. We've partnered with TWO BRIDGES REGIONAL JAIL to ensure that access to care continues for individuals during incarceration. Health still matters, and continuity of care is critical to recovery. 🤝 📢 While our work at Two Bridges is limited to incarcerated patients needing treatment, we’re actively seeking new Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) to expand our reach and serve more individuals throughout the Rockland and Brunswick community. Together, we can break down barriers to treatment and meet patients where they are. 🌏 🩺 Innovating Mental Health Nursing Education Through Experiential Learning and Academic–Clinical Collaboration Featuring New Season The High Point University Teresa Caine School of Nursing recently had the honor of welcoming an extraordinary group of guest lecturers, New Season Treatment Center who flew in from their home states to share their expertise with our junior nursing students in Dr. Lorrie Davis-Dick, DNP, MSN, PMH-BC, MHFA Instructor's Management of Mental Health Nursing course. Dr. Chip Roberts-MD Psychiatrist & Chief Medical Director, Mr. Matt Ruffner, MHA-Senior Regional Director, and Mr. Jeffery Self-Director of National Outreach delivered a master-level synthesis of addiction medicine, the critical nursing role in treatment and recovery, and emerging evidence shaping contemporary practice. Dr. Roberts, Mr. Ruffner, and Mr. Self from New Season Treatment Centers—a national leader in opioid use disorder treatment with locations across 32 states—delivered a powerful, practice-focused lecture for our Management of Mental Health Nursing course. Their presentation went far beyond textbook knowledge—bringing evidence-based insight in the latest trends in substance abuse treatment, clinical wisdom, and deep compassion into our classroom. 🚐 A special highlight: Ms. Dick-Nurse and Mr. Evans-Program Coordinator traveled from Alamance County with the New Season Mobile Unit, giving students a hands-on look at innovative community outreach and accessible treatment models. Experiences like these bring classroom learning to life in ways lectures alone never could. This partnership is deeply personal for Mental Health Nursing Professor, Dr. Lorrie Davis-Dick, DNP, MSN, PMH-BC, MHFA Instructor. After losing her sister-in-law—a beloved nurse practitioner—to an overdose, is more committed than ever to advancing education, advocacy, and compassionate care for those affected by substance use disorders. 💚 At HPU, we know that meaningful experiential learning doesn't happen without partners willing to invest their time to cross state lines, deliver expertise, and heart into the next generation of nurses. To the entire New Season team: thank you for exemplifying what true academic-clinical collaboration looks like in nursing education and beyond. This is just the beginning. We look forward to building a lasting partnership with New Season—including future research collaborations—that advances education, clinical practice, and outcomes for individuals and families impacted by opioid use disorder on a national scale. Special thanks to Dr. Racquel Ingram, PhD, RN, Founding Dean, for supporting this innovative learning experience. 💜 #NursingEducation #MentalHealthNursing #HighPointUniversity #AcademicPartnership #FutureNurses #ExperientialLearning #Advocacy NAMI Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)

Our team recently visited High Point University to present to the Nursing Class of 2027, creating a powerful bridge between classroom learning and real-world patient care. Key highlights: ⭐️ Dr. Chip Roberts led a “transformative” session on harm reduction, MAT practices, stigma reduction, and advocacy in OUD care. ⭐️ Our Greensboro Mobile Unit (Kimberly Dick and Preston Evans) brought hands-on learning to campus, arriving slightly late due to active patient care, a real-time reminder that patients always come first. ⭐️ New connections formed with Cone Health, Novant Health, and Atrium Health, with HPU expressing interest in future research collaboration. Thank you to Dr. Chip Roberts, Jeff Self, Matt Ruffner, MHA, Kimberly Dick, and Preston Evans for making this possible - and to HPU’s School of Nursing leadership, whose personal connection to this mission underscores the life-saving impact of this work. 👏 Together, we’re shaping the next generation of compassionate, evidence-based healthcare providers. 🤝 Onward to a new season of excellence. ✨

A major new study in JAMA highlights a critical challenge in opioid treatment: • 61% of patients stay in treatment at 30 days • 42% at 90 days • Just 28% at 6 months 👀 Now look at this: ⬇️⬇️⬇️ New Season retention rates: • 92% at 30 days • 74% at 90 days • 62% at 6 months ⬆️⬆️⬆️ That’s not a small improvement. It’s nearly 2x higher retention at six months. And in opioid treatment, retention isn’t just a metric; it’s directly tied to survival. So the real question is: 👉 What’s driving the difference? A new national study highlights the challenge across 1,100+ programs, but it also makes one thing clear: Better outcomes are possible. We break down what the research shows about improving retention at scale. 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/e4_YHrGz #Healthcare #AddictionTreatment #OpioidCrisis #BehavioralHealth #PatientOutcomes #ValueBasedCare

🤝 Through a partnership with the ALAMANCE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT/WIC, we added a new stop for the mobile medication unit in Alamance County, N.C. Expanding access to opioid treatment saves lives and strengthens communities. Operating as an extension of our treatment center in Greensboro, this service provides treatment to residents who previously had to travel far and wide for care.
