We're redefining how, when and where care is delivered.

About us

Atrium Health, part of Advocate Health, is redefining how, when and where care is delivered. We are rethinking methods of care delivery to reach more people and bringing human kindness to every step of their health journey. Our dedication to elevating health care for every individual, every teammate and every community is unwavering. We won't stop until everyone – no matter who they are or where they come from – has the possibility to live well. And because of this, we are redefining why we exist, our purpose as an organization and how we make it happen together as one.

This week, Advocate Health CEO Eugene A. Woods was presented the Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award by North Carolina Governor Josh Stein. It’s the highest award given to a civilian who has demonstrated exemplary service to North Carolina and their communities that is above and beyond the call of duty, and to those who have made a significant impact and strengthened the state.   As Governor Stein shared during a surprise ceremony in Charlotte, Gene has “made an indelible mark on the city...he's prioritized expanding healthcare, access in rural communities, in schools and in underserved neighborhoods.” Governor Stein noted how Gene helped bring Charlotte's first four-year medical school campus through the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, strengthening North Carolina's future physician pipeline. He also credited Gene for being the visionary behind Charlotte’s landmark innovation district, The Pearl CLT, remarking how it will drive jobs, research, medical training and economic opportunity for generations to come.   From the entire Advocate Health family, congratulations to Gene on this very prestigious award!

  • As a nurse manager in Atrium Health Levine Cancer’s Department of Supportive Oncology, Susan leads teams across integrative oncology, survivorship and senior oncology—bringing together multidisciplinary care to support patients and their families throughout their cancer journeys. Before nursing, Susan was a classically trained violinist but after discovering her passion for health and wellness, she found her calling in caring for others. Today, she’s driven by making even the hardest moments a little easier, whether that’s helping patients manage symptoms or supporting her team’s growth. She was recently named a finalist for CURE Magazine’s Extraordinary Healers Award, which honors oncology nurses whose clinical excellence and compassionate care shape the patient experience. “I’m incredibly honored and humbled,” Susan shared. “The fact that a colleague nominated me means so much.” Outside of work, she enjoys knitting and running – saying she has a “slow and steady” style, but proud to have completed her first marathon in 2024. Join us in celebrating Susan and the difference she makes every day.

  • For young athletes, a safe season starts before the first practice. During this year’s Heart of a Champion Day in Charlotte, Atrium Health screened more than 800 student-athletes, offering free, comprehensive health evaluations in a single visit. The event was supported by 326 volunteers, including doctors, nurses, athletic trainers and other healthcare professionals. Student-athletes received musculoskeletal exams, vision checks and heart screenings with an ECG. These screenings helped identify potential concerns early, giving families the opportunity to follow up and take proactive steps toward care. This annual initiative brings together experts from Atrium Health Musculoskeletal Institute, Atrium Health Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute and Atrium Health Levine Children’s. Together, these teams are helping student-athletes stay healthy, confident and ready for what’s next.

  • In April, our teammates came together across Advocate Health for National Volunteer Month of Service — making a meaningful impact in the communities we serve. ❤️ While April is a special moment to rally around service, giving back is part of who we are year-round. At Advocate Health, purpose extends beyond the workplace. Our teammates receive up to 12 hours of paid volunteer time each year to support the causes they care about — because when our teammates thrive, our communities do too. Thank you to everyone who showed up, gave back and made a difference.

Harlow’s journey is a reminder that bravery comes in all sizes. Last April, Harlow’s family faced an unexpected and frightening journey when he began experiencing unexplained swelling. They turned to Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with nephrotic syndrome, a serious kidney disorder. Through treatments, infusions and ongoing challenges, Harlow has shown remarkable strength and courage. He has never faced a moment alone, surrounded by the love of his family and the expert care team at Levine Children’s every step of the way. Fresh off his first soccer season, Harlow was ready for match day. He and his parents attended their very first Charlotte FC match, and we are proud to celebrate his strength and winning spirit alongside a Charlotte FC win!
