Let’s get more meals to neighbors in need. Together, we can fight hunger, reduce waste, and increase access.

About us

Move For Hunger is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that mobilizes transportation networks to deliver surplus food to communities in need. As you may be aware, many people throw out a good deal of “stuff” when they move. Unfortunately, a lot of this “stuff” is food that could be delivered to a family in need rather than thrown away. That’s where we come in! Move For Hunger teams up with professional moving companies, corporate housing providers, relocation management companies, and multifamily apartment communities across the U.S. & Canada to rescue unopened, non-perishable food items from people moving and deliver it to local food banks. In addition to collecting food from people who are moving to new homes, Move For Hunger helps companies and individuals across the United States and Canada organize thousands of successful food drives and employee engagement events each year. Since its founding in 2009, Move For Hunger has delivered more than 32 million pounds of food - that's 26.5 million meals - to food banks and pantries nationwide.

  • What a night. 💙 Last week, we partnered with Slide3 for an unforgettable ArCANtecture event at Hudson Farm, where teams built incredible structures out of canned and boxed goods, all in the name of fighting hunger. The results speak for themselves: 🏗️ Stunning ArCANtecture builds 🥫 Nearly 7,000 pounds of shelf-stable food donated to Benny's Bodega 💰 Over $40,000 raised so far (and still climbing), the equivalent of 160,000+ meals Every pound of food collected is heading to Benny's Bodega, a food pantry designed like a grocery store so neighbors can shop with dignity. That model is something we deeply believe in, and we're grateful to help stock their shelves. A huge thank you to Slide3, who is celebrating one year as our corporate partner and opened up their entire personal and professional community to make this night possible. Your generosity continues to move us. Thank you to Hudson Farm for hosting us in such a stunning setting, and to Can't Quit Moving for getting the night started by transporting every pallet of food with care. And the work isn't done. We're teaming up with Slide3 again this fall for a Thanksgiving meal pack. More on that soon! 🦃 #MoveForHunger #ArCANtecture #Slide3 #HudsonFarm #CantQuitMoving #BennysBodega

  • 🥫 Food Fact Friday For millions of renters, move-out season means boxes, trucks…and often perfectly good food left behind. But when does “peak move-out season” actually happen in multifamily housing? Cast your vote 👇 We’ll reveal the answer Monday, along with why this time of year is so important for food rescue efforts.

  • Every May, millions of Americans leave food by their mailbox for Stamp Out Hunger, the largest one-day food drive in the country. But once that food is collected, what happens next? There's a hidden logistics story behind every successful food drive. By the end of Stamp Out Hunger day, post offices and collection sites can be holding thousands of pounds of donated food, and that food needs to move quickly to get to the food banks and families who need it. That is where Move For Hunger and our network of transportation partners step in. This year, our network helped move over 227,000+ pounds of food through Stamp Out Hunger, bridging the gap between collection and distribution so that every donated bag reaches its destination. Stamp Out Hunger works because every part of the chain matters: the residents who donate, the letter carriers who collect, the volunteers who sort, the transportation partners who move the food, and the food banks who get it into the hands of families. • Happy National Eat More Fruits and Vegetables Day. 🥔💙 Here is one way we are celebrating: we have already rescued over 1,350,000 pounds of potatoes so far this year. That is the weight of four blue whales, and we are still going. Most of these potatoes came from farms and storage facilities with more than they could move in time. Some are surplus from the 2025 harvest still in storage. Others are part of a 2026 crop that is simply bigger than the supply chain can absorb. Without coordinated logistics, all of it would have gone to waste. Instead, every pound is heading to food banks and pantries across the country, thanks to our network of movers, drivers, and partners. And potatoes deserve their moment. They are: 🥔 Higher in potassium than a banana 🥔 A great source of vitamin C and fiber 🥔 Naturally fat-free and cholesterol-free 🥔 Affordable, shelf-stable, and endlessly versatile 🥔 A staple ingredient that stretches meals for families on tight budgets Rescuing food and feeding communities go hand in hand. Every potato we move is one less wasted, and one more meal on someone's table. 👉 Want to help us rescue more food? • Behind almost every "pounds of food rescued" number is a story like this one. 🌱 10,000 pounds of perfectly good green beans were one phone call away from a landfill...until our team and the crew at Koola Logistics jumped in to transport the beans to Madera County Food Bank. Full story from Stephanie De La Hoz below. 👇

10,000 lbs of organic green beans almost ended up in a dumpster last week. When a major retailer rejected the load, our friend Doug Dellinger at Koola Logistics called our Move For Hunger team immediately. The beans were still in perfect condition. They just needed a home, fast. Our awesome Food Recovery Coordinator Kyla Crisp got to work and quickly connected the load to Madera County Food Bank, which had the capacity to receive them right away. Just like that, 7 pallets of beautiful, fresh organic green beans went from possibly ending up in a dumpster, to being re-routed to the dinner tables of hardworking families in Madera County. This is what food rescue looks like in real time. A quick call. A fast connection. And thousands of pounds of nutritious food that never saw a landfill. Thank you to the team at Koola Logistics for being exactly the kind of partner that makes this work, and for making sure good food always finds a good home. 🌱 #FoodRescue #MoveForHunger #ZeroFoodWaste #FoodInsecurity #ProduceDonation #HungerRelief

  • This is what a 1,000 meal kits looks like. 💙 At AIM 2026, the multifamily marketing community came together at the Hyatt Huntington Beach to pack 1,022 pounds of food for families across Southern California still recovering from the wildfires. From the first kit packed to the final delivery at Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, every step was powered by partners who believe in showing up when it matters most. Thank you to Updater and Digible, Inc for being partners who walk beside us in the fight against hunger. A huge thank you to CORT for transporting every kit from the conference floor to the food bank, to Albertsons for providing the groceries, and to the AIM community for proving once again that this industry knows how to turn conversation into action. Watch the impact come together in 30 seconds. 👇 #AIM2026 #AIMConf #MoveForHunger #CORT #SecondHarvestFoodBank #SHFBOC #FeedOC

Partnerships are the heartbeat of everything we do, so being part of a conference built around that theme? Couldn't be more our speed. 🤝 Move For Hunger is proud to be an official Bronze Sponsor of this year's Food Sourcing and Operations Conference, hosted by Fresh Connect Central this August in Indianapolis. 🎉 This year's theme is right in line with our mission. Every meal rescued, every family fed, every pound of food kept out of the waste stream, it all starts with partnership. We can't wait to connect with food sourcing leaders, operations experts, and fellow sponsors who are working to make the food system stronger, more efficient, and more equitable. There's incredible energy in a room full of people committed to solving the same challenges from different angles, and we're honored to be part of it. A huge thank you to the Fresh Connect Central team for bringing this community together and for the work they do every day to fight hunger across the Midwest. Headed to Indianapolis August 18-20? Come find us. We'd love to talk about how your team can turn everyday operations into hunger relief impact. 💙 #PowerofPartnerships2026 #PowerOfPartnerships #FreshConectCentral #MoveForHunger #FoodSourcingAndOperationsConference
