What do Voice AI agents look like in the field? In Charlotte, Atrium Health’s “Anna” is improving care and reducing burnout. Local station WSOC-TV Eyewitness News talked to Atrium and Advocate Health’s Andy McWilliams: “The reality in healthcare is that we oftentimes just don't have enough resources to do all of the things that we want to do." AI is giving time and capacity back to clinicians, while providing hours more care to patients. Watch the story here: https://lnkd.in/g-ET4Yq6

On the Becker's Healthcare podcast, Betsy Williamson RN, BS, MHA, Vice President, Quality Performance and Population Health at Medical Mutual of Ohio talks about how AI augments, not replaces, humans; the importance of picking the right AI partner; and meeting members where they are, noting that "one in three people today are using some type of AI to explore healthcare decisions, healthcare problems." The summary: Medical Mutual's Voice AI agents are helping them "expand more, reach more people, and help them through their journey." The numbers prove it: "[once] the AI Voice Agent was live, we saw 360 percent capacity within our care teams, which really allowed them to work with those members that needed their help." Listen to learn more about how payers like Medical Mutual are using voice AI to meet their members needs.

Problem ➡️ Solution. Learn how we partner with Modular to power flexible, high-quality inference for clinical patient conversation. In healthcare, every millisecond matters when you are engaging real patients with real-time voice. That's why latency gains compound directly into better patient experience and per-node efficiency. Modular's MAX framework + our inference pipelines + NVIDIA B300 GPUs = real results. 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/evcj3H-F
AI agents in healthcare don't get to miss latency targets. Hippocratic AI's Polaris system has to complete every conversational turn in under 800ms, with safety models analyzing the exchange in parallel, and the first turn alone processing around 10,000 tokens of context. At the scale of tens of thousands of patient sessions daily, tail latency is a clinical constraint. When existing frameworks couldn't meet those targets as they scaled, Hippocratic moved to MAX. Sub-second TTFT, model accuracy preserved, and they can now run across accelerators as new hardware comes to market without rewriting their inference pipeline. A look at how regulated enterprises like Hippocratic AI uses MAX in production for real-time patient conversations: https://lnkd.in/evcj3H-F

Closing a gap: Anti-VEGF therapy prevents blindness. 30–60% of patients still go blind anyway — because they miss the appointments, not because the drug fails. Today in JAMA Ophthalmology Genentech and our team published the first study on whether a conversational voice AI agent can close that gap. Why voice? The patients most at risk of dropping off are the ones least reached by portals, apps, and text reminders. Voice meets people where they already are — on the phone, in their own language, at any hour — with the patience to answer the same question three times if that's what someone needs to feel ready for their next injection. The study looked at how patients with wet AMD and their care teams experienced our generative AI conversational assistant for treatment education and support. Patients found it usable. Clinicians found it acceptable. Both saw a credible path to scaling this kind of support across chronic disease. Huge thanks to the Genentech team — rigorous, patient-centered, and willing to ask the hard questions on safety alongside us. This is what responsible deployment of healthcare AI looks like: peer-reviewed, co-designed with clinicians, and measured against the outcomes that matter most to patients. Ophthalmology is the start. Chronic disease is the horizon. If you're a pharma or health system team thinking about adherence at scale, we'd love to connect and share notes. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gDUiNCJy

We are honored to be part of this great piece by Scott Becker sharing his vision for the future of healthcare and AI. “We have the periodic chance to visit with great leaders trying to make a huge difference. We are big fans of these companies on so many levels as they pit themselves in the arena and try to make a difference.” To us, making a difference means ensuring that healthcare leaders have access to the world’s safest Voice AI agents and are able to drive patient outcomes at scale.
The evolution of AI is happening in multiple forms and multiple use cases. We see it on the administrative side of health care and increasingly on the clinical side. Over the past few years, systems have doubled and tripled down on solutions in the ambient listening area, the revenue cycle area, the predicative analytics area, the virtual nursing world, agentic AI and a lot more. The technologies, like all evolving technologies, will get better. The nation faces huge supply and demand challenges with our growth in population at 350 mm people compared to 1 million drs and 4 to 5 mm nurses. Supply and demand are out of whack. This makes it difficult to access pcps, specialists and allied health professionals. We need the improvements that AI can bring and we need more drs and nurses. As we evolve into this new hybrid world of care which will use AI, tech and people, there will be constant chasms as we figure out what really works and how we can take the pressure off physicians and nurses and health systems. It's a work in process and we will see over time which companies and technologies make a difference. Many companies in this area are highly valued with the hope that they will be the winners in this area. Others are trying to get traction. It will be a few years until we can really judge the winners and losers. It's an infinite work in progress. I am convinced that some will have a very big impact in helping us and the world manage its growing + aging population. We have the periodic chance to visit with great leaders trying to make a difference. We are fans of companies that put themselves in the arena and try to make a difference. It's exciting to watch the growth of companies like LeanTaaS, Abridge, Ambience Healthcare, Artisight, Aidoc, Hippocratic AI, Notable, Thyme, Tempus AI, Viz.ai, Hyro, OpenEvidence, SuperDial Qventus, Inc, Rhyme AI, Nuance, Nabla and more that are trying to make an impact. Some are later stage and have huge traction. Others past seed and venture backed and working hard to grow with their health systems and VC partners. Many are backed by gold standard investors in Silicon Valley like Khosla Ventures,Kleiner Perkins, Andreessen Horowitz, General Catalyst and others. Like any new explosive growth concept, some of the newer entrants which are scaling fast will really make a difference. Others will not. Some are far enough long to know they are already doing fantastic. Others are working hard to make an impact. Some will do fantastic some won't. I think the leaders are in a race to grow, add value and prove they can have impact. We know many and greatly admire their Herculean efforts. Don't listen to the naysayers re AI. It's not linear and it's imperfect and it's going to be a big part of health care. At Becker's Healthcare we will highlight a ton of these leaders and companies at our next Health IT and Digital Health Conf. Onward and upward!! Never dull.

As we head into National Nurse's Week, I find myself reflecting on the last year and the nurses I have had the privilage to work alongside. I have always believed that nurses are true innovators and it has been incredible to see this in action across the country. In my role as Chief Nursing Officer at Hippocratic AI, I've had the opportunity to work alongside our team to build nursing operations, partner with universities on developing AI education for nurses, and serve as a true advocate for nurses in the tech space. Recently, I got the chance to take on product development — and two weeks ago, we launched something I'm incredibly proud of: Nurse Co-Pilot, our first product designed completely with nurses in mind. https://lnkd.in/g_2fpnyT For years, I was on the receiving end of technology that didn't make sense for nurses. Tools that didn't fit our workflows, created more steps, more frustration — just one more thing. That experience is exactly why it was so important to co-design this from day one, with nurses at the table. I'm so grateful for the partners who believed in that vision alongside us (special shout out to Nelita Iuppa, Scott Estep, MBOE, RN, CSSBB, Jennifer Gamm Ruschman and Anita Harris-Brown and their incredible clinicians!) this product is a true testament to the nurses who helped shape it, and who continue to push us to make it better. Changing healthcare doesn't happen all at once. We just have to get started and start doing. And it has to be done hand in hand with the people doing the work. This Nurse's Week, I'm grateful to be on this journey with so many wonderful nursing leaders across the country and am excited to see what we can do together to build a better tomorrow for nurses and patients alike. ❤️ #NurseCoPilot #NursingInnovation #HealthcareAI #HippocraticAI #NurseLeadership #HealthTech
