Back from #SwissBiotechDay after a packed few days. I gave a reverse pitch for Deepbright Ventures and spent most of the event in meetings with founders, investors, and BD teams. A lot of good early stage companies raising seed and pre seed rounds. You can see how much support exists around founders through groups like Venturelab, BaseLaunch, Forty51 Ventures, and Nucleate. #AI was part of almost every discussion. A lot of companies are using it for early disease biology, target discovery, and drug discovery workflows. That is clearly where most of the interest from pharma and investors is today. At the same time, there was also a more practical view from some speakers. The real question is whether these tools can improve clinical outcomes, especially Phase II success rates where many programs still fail. If AI can move that number meaningfully, then the impact becomes real. Interesting point from a few panels was that most tools today still work in fragments across the R&D chain. There still is not one integrated system giving scientists a complete picture from discovery to clinic. People seemed optimistic this improves over the next 12 to 24 months. Good discussions from leaders across Evotec, NVIDIA, Merck and Roche. One panel I found especially useful was around partnering and exits. Speakers from Boehringer Ingelheim Venture Fund, Gilead Sciences and Schellenberg Wittmer shared practical advice for founders. A few things that came up repeatedly: • Think about exit strategy earlier than you think you should. • Trade sales are still much more common than IPOs. • Important value inflection points are usually before Phase I or after Phase II data. • Keeping the cap table clean matters later. • IP and licensing discussions should be handled carefully from the beginning. There were also interesting examples of how early relationships can become larger partnerships later on. One example discussed was CSL supporting Phase III development with future acquisition optionality around companies like VarmX. Many of these conversations apparently started years earlier through simple introductions and conference meetings. The Global Village was another highlight. Delegations from #India, #Bavaria, #BadenWürttemberg, #China, #Estonia, #Italy, #Japan #HongKong and more were showcasing companies and regional ecosystems. Parallel sessions, nonstop meetings, quick coffees between panels, reconnecting with old friends, and meeting many new people across biotech. Great to see the next generation of venture talent in action.   Our Managing Partner, Riadh Shaïek, led last week a venture capital elective at SKEMA Business School Sophia Antipolis Campus in Nice - French Riviera, engaging with 124 master’s students.   The course covered the full venture lifecycle, from fundraising and deal sourcing to investment, portfolio management and exits. Going beyond theory, Riadh shared real cases and practical insights drawn from over 15 years in the industry and offering a behind-the-scenes look at how a venture firm operates, including the inner workings of Deepbright Ventures.   It was great to see the curiosity and ambition of the students, actively asking questions, seeking insights and showing a strong interest in deep tech and the Hello Tomorrow ecosystem.   A great experience overall 🎓💫.
