  • Waiting 8–10 years for grid capacity isn’t viable for businesses trying to electrify at pace. ⚡ ⏩ But what if you didn’t need full capacity on day one? In this carousel, we break down how ramping agreements can help operators secure future power now, reduce upfront costs, and accelerate EV rollout plans - without waiting for full reinforcement. For asset owners and operators planning long-term electrification, this is a conversation worth having. Check out our advice here as an IDNO already supporting developers deliver a solution that works for them today ⤵️

  •  What does life after the grid ‘zombies’ look like? At a private roundtable in London, Aurora brought together senior energy leaders and investors to tackle a hard truth: clearing 600GW of stalled projects sounds like progress - but it doesn’t guarantee delivery.   That is because the real issue isn’t just the queue…it’s what comes next.   ⚡ 98% have capital tied to projects needing grid by 2026 ⚡ Delays can add up to 30% in cost ⚡ Grid access is fast becoming an economic - and political - constraint   The thought-provoking discussion saw one question arise: Will Gate 2 unlock growth…or just replace one set of “zombies” with another?   Our latest blog unpacks what industry leaders are really saying - from investor hesitation to the growing role of IDNOs in speeding up connections.   👉 Read the full discussion here:

  • The shift towards greener homes powered by cleaner energy is accelerating across the UK, with government policy providing clear direction. 🏠 ⚡ 🔸 Ministers unveiled new guidance confirming that from 2028, new homes are expected to transition away from the gas network, instead using low-carbon heating systems such as heat pumps or heat networks. 🔸 In addition, new homes will be expected to install solar panels as standard, typically covering around 40% of the building footprint.☀️ 🔸 In Scotland, similar measures are already in place, with gas and oil-based heating in new builds banned since 2024 and replaced by lower-carbon alternatives such as heat pumps. 🔸 While these ambitions represent a significant step forward for decarbonisation, they also present a challenge for housebuilders. 🔸 Electricity demand is expected to increase by around 50% by 2035, driven in part by the widespread deployment of domestic heat pumps. 📊 This will place additional pressure on the grid, where capacity constraints are already emerging in many parts of the UK. 🔌 Get in touch to find out how an Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO) can provide businesses with innovative strategies to meet future energy capacity needs without compromising on speed, quality or environmental impact: info@aurora-utilities.co.uk #EnergyTransition #NetZero #HeatPumps #UKHousing

Net zero has a wiring problem. Yesterday I sat down with Simon Reilly, CEO of Aurora Utilities Limited, a business operating right at the centre of that problem. The UK has an ambition problem. Not a lack of it. Too much of it, pointed at a grid that was never built to cope. AI data centres drawing unprecedented power. 1.5 million new homes. EV infrastructure scaling fast. Renewables that need connecting before they can deliver anything. All of it sitting behind the same queue. The same outdated connection process. The same infrastructure that hasn’t kept pace. Aurora is one of the businesses actually unlocking it, solving the last mile of grid connectivity. Faster, more flexible, more commercial than the traditional route. We’ll be getting into what’s actually broken, who’s responsible for fixing it, and whether the UK is serious about what comes next. New episode of “The Infra Insider”. • Managing the grid connection queue has become a major challenge for the energy transition. ⚡ The National Energy System Operator (NESO) has introduced reforms to reduce delays, shifting from order of application to a project readiness approach.🔌 But is queue management alone enough? As Aurora Utilities Limited Chief Executive Simon Reilly explains, reform must go further. Regulatory change around how grid capacity is delivered is needed alongside it. 🏗️ Simon recently shared his insights with The Energy Industry Times. Swipe through the slides below for some of the key takeaways. 📊 #GridConnections #EnergyPolicy #EnergyTransition #NetZero

  • Aurora was proud to sponsor the British Ports Association Annual Lunch 2026 last month, bringing together leaders from across the UK maritime and ports sector to discuss the opportunities and challenges shaping the industry’s future. ⚓ As a member of the British Ports Association, Aurora is committed to supporting the conversations and collaboration helping to shape the future of the industry. 🎤 Our CEO, Simon Reilly, spoke at the event about the growing importance of port and harbour electrification as the UK moves towards a cleaner, more resilient energy future. ⚡ From supporting decarbonisation targets to enabling shore power, cleaner vessel operations, and more efficient port infrastructure, electrification is rapidly becoming a critical priority for ports across the UK. 🔌 A key part of this transition will be ensuring ports have access to the grid capacity needed to support future demand. 🤝 By working closely with Independent Distribution Network Operators (IDNOs), port authorities can plan and deliver network upgrades more efficiently, helping to minimise disruption to critical cargo operations, logistics networks, ferry services, and wider harbour activity while ensuring infrastructure is future-ready. 👏 Thank you to the British Ports Association for hosting another excellent event and for continuing to champion the conversations that will help shape the future of UK maritime infrastructure. #BritishPortsAssociation #PortElectrification #EnergyTransition #UKMaritime

  • Understanding the difference between a DNO and an IDNO can have a major impact on your project, find out why here.⚡ While both operate under the same Ofgem-regulated standards ✅ maintain identical reliability requirements 🔧 and apply the same DUoS framework 💡, IDNOs (Independent Distrubtion Network Operators) can offer additional commercial and operational benefits. 💷 An IDNO can work anywhere in Great Britain, provide Asset Value Payments (AVs), support efficient programme delivery and offer greater flexibility around design and materials - all while taking long-term ownership and responsibility for the network. For developers, that can mean improved returns 📈 faster connections ⚡ clearer communication 🤝 and a more responsive delivery partner. Click through to find out more 👇

  • What is one of the most critical milestones in delivering the UK’s net zero agenda? The successful transition of large fleet operators to electric models. That transition has taken a step forward, with the UK Government committing £1 billion to support EV uptake. ⚡ 🔌 📊 Here’s what we know: 🛻 The Zero Emission Truck and Van grants and the Depot Charging Scheme aim to address two of the biggest barriers: upfront costs and access to charging infrastructure. 💷 Under the scheme, up to 40% of the cost of a new electric truck will be covered -representing potential savings of up to £81,000, depending on vehicle weight. Discounts of up to £5,000 for electric vans will also continue. 🔌The funding also supports infrastructure rollout. A £170 million boost to the Depot Charging Scheme will cover up to 70% of the cost of charging infrastructure for public authorities and private businesses. ⚡ Support at this scale could help accelerate fleet electrification - moving it from early adoption to wider commercial deployment. #FleetElectrification #EnergyTransition #NetZero #EVInfrastructure
