Heat networks - all you need to know about borehole drilling Our heat networks are made up of closed loop pipework in a series of boreholes which draw ambient heat from the ground. Borehole drilling is often one of the biggest unknowns for developers, and questions about space, access and disruption frequently arise. However, in practice, borehole drilling for ground source heat networks is far more flexible than many expect. With early planning, it can be integrated into most new-build sites without compromising layout, programme or buildability. Take a read below for some key facts about and find out more on our website: https://lnkd.in/eX8gZHGh #HeatNetworks #NetZero #LowCarbonHeating #FutureHomes

The importance of SuDS in new developments With the high levels of rainfall we’ve seen in 2026, now feels like a great time to highlight the importance of Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) in new developments. As the UK’s wastewater infrastructure comes under increasing strain - alongside continued demand for new housing - early planning for SuDS is critical to delivering a resilient and compliant drainage strategy. While SuDS are primarily designed to manage surface water and reduce flood risk, well-designed schemes can also support biodiversity net gain, creating attractive, multi-functional spaces that benefit both people and wildlife. Early engagement with UKPS can help ensure your drainage and wastewater strategy is robust from the start, reducing risk and avoiding costly redesigns later in the project lifecycle. 👉 Find out more about our wastewater services here: https://lnkd.in/eVeXRt8h #WastewaterConnections #SuDS #BNG #NAVAdoption

Proud to be part of building a huge landmark! Here at UKPS, we're proud to be working with YTL Construction UK delivering the utility requirements to the exciting new town of Brabazon, on the outskirts of Bristol. So far we've: 👉 Designed and delivered a 33-11kV primary substation 👉 Secured 24MVA of electrical load for the site 👉 Completed 2km of off-site works 👉 Completing multi-utility connections for the first few phases and student accommodation It's great to see works underway for what will be the largest live entertainment venue in the South West, where we will be installing two HV metered connections totalling 10MVA. Our experience and expertise means we can deliver strategic, large scale, complex developments. It’s time to put Bristol on the world stage for live music and entertainment. Construction is getting underway on the South West’s flagship live entertainment venue - the 20,000-capacity YTL Arena Bristol - after years of meticulous planning and careful demolition to protect the site’s heritage and honour its legacy as the birthplace of Concorde. It’s been a delicate and highly technical process. Our teams have stripped the iconic Concorde hangar back to its original 1940s steel frame, safely removed the historic Esavian hangar doors and seven major structural trusses, and taken off the existing roof so it can be replaced with one designed for exceptional acoustics. Over the next 18 months, the site will undergo a remarkable transformation: • 2,300 precast concrete units will form the arena bowl. • 7,500 tonnes of British fabricated steel will be used across the build. • 2,100 cubic metres (around 5,000 tonnes) of concrete will go into the structural core - two of which rise to 28 metres. • The roof ridge will reach 35 metres in height. • 9,000 cubic metres (over 21,000 tonnes) of concrete will be used for foundations and the ground slab. We’re building a landmark for the region - and we’re looking for talented people to join us as this transformative project progresses. A new era for heat networks! Today marks a milestone for heat networks in Great Britain with Ofgem becoming the regulator for heat networks. Starting today, heat network suppliers and operators need to comply with Ofgem's regulations which introduce new rules to protect customers. The regulation focuses on: 👩💻 Good customer service 📈 Improving reliability of energy supply 🧾 Transparent, easy to understand energy bills 💷 Fair pricing Delivering utility networks to high standards is something we are proud of, and regulating heat networks is a huge step in decarbonising new homes. This means we can still deliver to high standards, but provide piece of mind to developers and ultimately, consumers. With over 2000 ground source heat connections being delivered across our Last Mile group, we're proud that our multi-award winning heat networks are already being owned and managed to the highest standards. To find out more about our heat networks, visit our websites:  https://lnkd.in/eX8gZHGh https://lnkd.in/epfFMcsU #HeatNetworks #Regulation #MultiUtilityConnections #DecarbonisingNewHomes #SustainableConstruction

Delivering power with precision beneath the M4 Before Christmas we saw the completion of some pretty spectacular civils works for one of our projects - a large industrial development requiring 6MVA capacity in Chippenham. Due to load constraints in the area, we needed to cross the M4 motorway to connect to the DNO's network. With survey's and assessments concluding that going over the junction bridge was not possible, the only option for our HV cable route was underneath the motorway. Working with National Highways and Lydon Contracting Ltd, this complex civil engineering operation of directional drilling to install the cable ducts under the M4 motorway, was carefully planned and executed to ensure minimal disruption to the surrounding infrastructure while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality. The successful completion of this work marks an important milestone in connecting a major new industrial development. It showcases our capability to deliver technically demanding solutions with confidence and precision - even in the most challenging environments. At UKPS, we continue to set the standard for innovative, efficient, and responsible delivery of utilities infrastructure across the country. A smarter alternative to traditional DNO's With grid constraints, legacy queue systems, and rising electricity demand, securing new electrical connections has become one of the most significant challenges facing modern developments. By working closely with DNOs and designing bespoke, flexible network solutions, UKPS can offer cost-effective alternatives to the traditional DNO approach. Through the use of asset value to reduce upfront capital expenditure, and in partnership with Last Mile Asset Management Limited as the IDNO, we design, build, and adopt high-quality, site-specific, and reliable electrical connections tailored to each development.
