SBI Foundation proudly commemorates the legendary war veteran, Company Havildar Major Piru Singh Shekhawat, on his 108th birth anniversary. During the Indo-Pak War of 1948, he displayed unmatched bravery and made the supreme sacrifice while leading his troops to victory. He was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, the highest gallantry award. To honour his inspiring legacy, SBI Foundation has established the 'CHM Piru Singh Shekhawat Youth Centre' at Hansalsar in Jhunjhunu District, Rajasthan. This initiative is part of the Gram Seva Programme being implemented in partnership with Arpan Seva Sansthan. The centre has a dedicated team providing physical and academic training to rural youth, enabling them to join defence and police services. The training is free of cost, and youth aged 16-21 are trained in batches of 25 each. So far, 60 youths have been successfully trained for security forces examinations. SBI Foundation salutes our national heroes not only by remembering their sacrifices but also by inspiring the future generation to join hands in nation-building activities. 6 Stories | 6 states | Rs 20+ lakhs income generation | One Grant Through the SBI Youth for India Sahayog Grant from SBI Foundation in 2023, we were able to scale Livelihood on Wheels to SIX new states - Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Odisha, focusing on East India. The grant was secured by Siddarth Daga, co-founder, NeoMotion, and also a proud YFI alumnus from the 2016-17 fellowship batch. Since receiving the grant 3 years ago, these 6 users with Locomotor Disability have cumulatively earned Rs 20 Lakhs (Rs 2 Lakh per annum per beneficiary) ! Maheshwar Patle is one such success story from the state of Chhattisgarh. He speaks not only about the livelihood support, but also about how the wheelchair is helps him with his day-to-day indoor mobility A big thank you to SBI Youth for India and SBI Foundation for the support, and we hope to scale the initiative even further to many more states and cities in the country !
