It is always great to team up with University College Dublin. On this occasion, we were able to do this while also working with our counterparts in the Embassy of Belgium and visiting guests from North-Rhine Westphalia in order to raise awareness about the Einstein Telescope. The Einstein Telescope is the groundbreaking project to build Europe’s most advanced observatory for gravitational wave research, which will hopefully be constructed in the border region between the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. “Along with our greatly-valued partners in Belgium and North Rhine-Westphalia, the Netherlands is deeply committed to making the vision for the Einstein Telescope a reality, and we welcome the chance to help key stakeholders learn more about the unrivalled advantages offered by the Euregion Meuse-Rhine (EMR) bid and region,” Ambassador Maaike van Koldam said. Thanks to everyone – especially Kevin Murphy and the team at UCD – for making this event possible. You can read more about the Einstein Telescope and the joint bid by the Netherlands, Belgium and North-Rhine Westphalia at the link below. https://lnkd.in/dc7R59d6

Great to attend the European Movement Ireland’s ‘EU Poll 2026 Launch’ event this morning in the beautiful surroundings of the Royal Irish Academy. It was wonderful to hear about the findings of the poll, which show that public support for EU membership in Ireland remains overwhelming. As Ireland gets ready to commence its EU Presidency, it is more important than ever to hear from European citizens about what they see as the priorities for continuing to work together for the good of all Europe’s citizens. Full credit to Deputy CEO Lorna Hayes for chairing the stimulating panel discussion with Dr. Pat Ivory, Dr. Kathryn Simpson and Amanda Ferguson, and thanks to the CEO Daniel Geary and the entire EMI team for making this event such a success. On Wednesday May 13th, an important event on ‘What the Einstein Telescope means for Europe’ will be taking place at UCD’s University Club from 15:00-16:30. When constructed, the Einstein Telescope will be Europe’s most advanced observatory for gravitational waves. Right now, the Netherlands, Belgium and the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia are working together on a joint bid to host what will be a massive underground facility. We are delighted to be partnering once again with the fantastic team at University College Dublin to organise what promises to be a stimulating event for those interested in cutting-edge research in the area of gravitational waves. Attendees from across Ireland’s scientific community will get to learn about the Einstein Telescope from scientific and policy experts, while also having an opportunity to network over refreshments afterwards. Capacity for the event is strictly limited, so those looking to attend are encouraged to register on Eventbrite right away. See you there! https://lnkd.in/dsTP2Bax University College Dublin Embassy of Belgium in Ireland
