Easy to find jobs, easy communication with clients, good built in features like zoom meetings and AI. Upwork's commission seems a bit high. Overall very good experience

I have found the UpWork as a secure
I have found the UpWork as a secure, best source to find clients, incredible platform than Fiverr.
Its a very nice platform
Not worth the connects
With over 18 years of extensive experience in 3d animation within the advertising arena, I’ve tried to find extra freelance work during a time when AI appears to be obliterating a lot of available work. I’ve often referred to Upwork over the years, but since revisiting the portal I’ve become extremely disappointed. What once seemed like a useful resource with the intention of connecting skilled freelance artists to work opportunities, it now appears to extort them. Every bid requires connects and if you run out, top em up. Not only do they take a good cut of your income but they charge you to look for work where often is the case spending those connects yields absolutely zero return.
Great platform!
Great experience
Great experience, upwork enable connection to many interesting people and projects across the whole globe!
Eat shit, Upwork
Hey, Upwork. Shut your mouth and listen. For real this time.
You parasites suck fees from both sides. You take a cut from clients. You take a cut from freelancers. You bleed us from both ends. And what do you actually give back? Absolutely nothing. Dispute comes up? You hide behind copy-paste macros and the word "neutral." Your platform is just a server you rent for cheap, and you sit on it collecting rent from human desperation. This isn't a business. This is double-dipping dressed up in a terms-of-service page. Organized extortion.
And the account bans. This makes my blood boil so hot I can't see straight.
"Hello, Upwork Team here. Your account has been permanently suspended due to a violation of our Terms of Service."
Whoever types that sentence, listen. Your fingers just pulled a trigger. You just vaporized years of someone's life. Every sleepless night. Every five-star review earned through blood. Every dollar that put food on the table. You incinerate a human being's livelihood in one second flat, and you wrap it in "friendly" language. That is a corpse with a ribbon tied around its neck. That is a killer smiling and saying, "We apologize for the inconvenience." At least a murderer knows they're evil. You bastards smile while you do it. You weaponize politeness. You are worse.
Connects. The word itself is profanity. You sell us the right to beg. We pay you just to apply. If we don't get the job, the money is still gone. Into your gut. Then you invented "boost." Pay more Connects. Gamble harder. It's a slot machine disguised as a job platform. You turned the labor market into a casino where the house always wins, and the freelancer always loses before the work even begins. And you have the audacity to call this "equal opportunity." I vomit at the phrase.
But let's get to the really rotten part. The fake jobs. Your platform is infested with them. Ghost postings. Scam clients. Non-existent projects. They are everywhere, and you know it. Freelancers burn their paid Connects applying to nothing. Dozens, hundreds of freelancers throwing money into a black hole on a single scam listing. And what do you do? Nothing. Why? Because every fake job still generates Connect purchases. That's your business model. Fraud is your revenue stream. You don't stop it because you profit from it.
And then the client abuse. Some sociopath client hires a freelancer, works them to the bone, gets the deliverables, takes all the work, and then cancels the project. "Not satisfied." They get the work for free. They leave a one-star review lying through their teeth: "Uncooperative." Hundreds of perfect reviews destroyed by one malicious rating. The freelancer's reputation? Gutted. Future income? Gone. And you? You do nothing.
The worst part. Disputes. When a freelancer gets scammed, gathers all the evidence, screenshots, timestamps, everything laid out crystal clear, and files a dispute, what happens? Your "mediation" is a joke. The answer is always, always, always on the client's side. Always. "Upon careful review, the client's action complies with our Terms of Service." You don't review. You don't mediate. You protect the client because the client spends money. Freelancers are not your customers. We are inventory. We are disposable. Your dispute system is not justice. It is a laundering machine for client abuse. It gives legal cover to theft.
So here is the complete picture. You charge both sides. You sell the right to beg. You let fake jobs run wild because they make you money. You let clients steal work and destroy reputations. You side with the abuser every single time. And when the freelancer is finally bled dry, broken, ruined, you send one "friendly" email and push the ban button.
This is your platform. A fraud-infested, client-worshipping, freelancer-grinding slaughterhouse with a smiley face on the logo.
One last thing, every single human being sitting in Upwork's offices. You closed cases today. You banned accounts today. You processed numbers on a screen. But those numbers were people. A father. A daughter paying hospital bills. A family that tonight, because of your "permanent suspension," will not eat. Can you sleep? If you can, you are no longer human. You are just meat attached to an extraction algorithm. A parasite with a pulse.
But parasites get burned out. The day is coming. And when it comes, you will be permanently suspended. No explanation. No appeal. One line. Just like you did to us.
That's your future. Choke on it.
It use to be good
It was a good webpage, I think between AI showing up and messing with the gig economy and the company trying to make more money, it's pretty much dead now, you can go on and train AI with voice notes for peanuts basically...
Quick and reassuring support for a new user
I am still a relatively new user, but when I contacted support about something I was unsure about, they responded quickly and carefully, which made me feel much more reassured.
They clearly explained the contract situation and the possible impact on my account, so I was able to close the project without unnecessary anxiety.
I would like to continue using Upwork to find good work opportunities and reliable clients.
Good opportunities, but the platform algorithm needs improvement
Title:
Good opportunities, but the platform algorithm needs improvement
Review:
Upwork has helped me connect with international clients and build long-term collaborations as an architect and designer. The platform itself is clean, easy to use, and payment protection is one of its strongest features. I’ve completed valuable projects and met great clients through it.
However, there are also frustrating issues that affect freelancers seriously. The Connects system often feels expensive and inefficient. Freelancers spend a lot of Connects applying to projects, but many jobs seem inactive, already decided internally, or never hire anyone at all. In many cases, applying feels like wasting credits without any real visibility or opportunity.
Another major issue is the platform algorithm. Sometimes, even when you maintain a strong profile, good reviews, fast responses, and consistent professional behavior, your profile visibility suddenly drops for weeks or even months. Project invitations and profile views can become extremely low or completely stop without clear explanation. For freelancers who depend on consistent workflow and income, this unpredictability can be very stressful and damaging.
Overall, Upwork still has strong potential and remains one of the best freelancing platforms available, but it would be much better with a fairer visibility system, more transparency in the algorithm, and improvements to the Connects model.

Excellent platform for finding quality freelance work
I’ve been using Upwork for a while now and it has been a game-changer for my freelance business. The interface is highly intuitive, communication with clients is seamless, and the built-in contract protection gives me total peace of mind regarding payments. The platform's commission and the cost of connects can feel a bit steep at times, but the steady access to quality global clients makes it well worth it. Highly recommended!
