About Plenty of Fish Dating

Written by the company

Logo

The Plenty of Fish story begins all the way back in the distant year of 2003 when it laid down its roots as the first free online dating site. POF believes that building a community where people feel free to be themselves, helps create the most meaningful connections. Every day, Plenty of Fish helps people find their blanket thief, Ikea sherpa, personal spider hunter…you get the point.

POF has always been true to itself, allowing members to choose their own path to connection on the app and matching members based on the things that ultimately make for real, long-lasting love. That’s why Plenty of Fish was the first dating app to ditch face filters. People can feel free to just be themselves. No pressure, just real connections.

Keep in mind it's not a free platform as they advertise. You have to pay for everything: read messages, write messages, even see who liked you

This is ridiculous, given the low quality of matches and abundance of scammers. Well known legit sites like SttDate.com
don't claim to be free but in fact they are cheaper than POF. Cheaper and more effective. Things just move faster there, leading to the real dates. I guess some people might have got a real date through POF as well, but it's a long process and it's vastly time-consuming. Plus, it's not free at all!

Perfect if you want a skank liar partner.

Just another dating site that has gone downhill due to bottom feeders and paywalls, used to be alright but somehow it's let itself become the host of way too many men compared to women, even if you upgrade you find yourself having messages never read and the same ol same ol haunting the site, would be okay if the playing field was fair and if the freeloaders were sorted out, my main experience is even when you pay you still experience the same ol b.s from jaded women who lie, man hop and waste your time and you soon realise why these insufferable females are single in the first place, definitely a case of you're better off alone.

Really gone down hill

Really gone down hill. Now they do this thing where they ask you to upgrade for an extravagant amount and then after you upgrade they say you didn't upgrade enough to get the features you clearly upgraded for. So they ask for another $20 to upgrade to the next tier to get the most basic features.

Rude, ignorant people

A depressing experience

I've never encountered a site with so many women seem to go out their way to be nasty to the men they're trying to attract...

I honestly don't think they know how to behave towards others anymore.

Many women don't seem to like men much so why are they on there?

The photos are either out of date or really unappealing and the profiles if they are even filled out at all are either rants or just unpleasant nonsense.

How can they seriously expect to attract someone when they act like this?

I would say 99% on there are a lost cause.

POF recently started a new program for…

POF recently started a new program for "Upgrading" Memberships. Previously, when upgrading they charged only the difference between the plans. NOW, they charge for BOTH memberships, and then "Refund" you the price of the original membership. However, the refund is said to be within 10 days. And if you don't get it... You're on your own. Just happened to me.

Dreadful

Dreadful. If I could give no stars I would. I was desperate for an easy pick up after my break up. Not even my £30 in the first month would enable me to message more than once in a day. As soon as that prescription runs out it blocks you from even seeing who likes you, it blanks out the pictures of all contacts that you’ve previously messsaged. An absolutely appalling attitude to have towards a paying “customer”. I wouldn’t join this site again in a million years. It’s a psychological scam.

Most are divorced and either have lots of children or describe themselves as being a dog momma lol.

Most just say that they can't see the likes and then tell you to just ask

Ask what? Why bother joining up if you're making no effort?

This is such a rip off

This is such a rip off. I paid 24.99 and then 29.99 and I can still not see or send messages. They want another 40 dollars for that privilege. I have requested a refund. I am not that desperate! We will see how it goes but I will not be surprised by anything. Come POF, make it right.

This site is all about money

This site is all about money. I upgraded to PLUS , and I cannot send messages or see who liked me.What the Hell was the PLUS package for? I've noticed many fake profiles. Now, To send messages it cost up to $2.00 per message. Luckily for them I can't rate it with 0 stars. Do not waste your money with this site. It's primary focus is to get as much money from you as possible.

Scammers .. don't send them any money

Scammers ... I paid via credit card for upgrade, the money left my account but no upgrade! They said they didnt recieve the money, I sent them screenshot to prove the money had been paid to them but they just denied receiving it. I went through the procedure to try to get money back with my credit card company who attempted, apparently, to contact them several times and POF would not talk to them, never ever send them any money they're a bunch of scammers.

AVOID THIS CONTINUOUS PAY WALL COMPANY

The site says many people on it, so I paid for a year thinking I could browse, and write to those you're interested in. NOPE. If you want to be the first one to write an introduction to somebody, you have to PAY AGAIN for 10 first contact attempts. You can have unlimited first contacts for an additional 126$ on top of the 125$ you pay for a year worth of browsing. I realized this too late, and before 24 hours were up, knew it was a complete scam and requested a refund and was denied. The people that were interesting hadn't even been on in months and still lists them- if everybody has to pay for first contacts, nobody really can just reach out without paying more. It's an absolute TERRIBLE site. They then send you emails saying that you can transfer your account to other sites they own, but of course you have to pay for those too- and every one on their additional sites are over 500 km away. AVOID THIS SCAM COMPANY

Half the women have too much baggage…

Half the women have too much baggage (lots of children) and the other half are just plain weird
The women in their 40s have extremely large egos and act like they're still 21

The strangest thing is the more unattractive and out of shape they are the pickier they are. Since when could they afford to pick and choose?

You get a flow of likes before you purchase the subscription

Then when you become a premium member, none of the women who liked you responds to your messages. The level of activity is much higher on SttDate.com
and the women who are actively engaged in correspondence are genuine. When you request to cancel your Pof subscription, you start getting that flow of likes again. They want you to renew your membership and keep on paying. I don't know how dumb one must be to believe that this can be true.

I'd been on this site for a while then suddenly baned

I'd been on this site for a while, then out of the blue I had my account suspended, I appealed this and I was then informed by 'customer services' that my account had been permanently banned for violating their terms and conditions.

No explanation was given as to precisely what violation I had committed. I genuinely couldn't think of anything that could have caused this other than a spurious complaint.

And of course having paid for a years subscription no refund was given for the term remaining.

In so many words the 'customer service' told me
' We don't have to tell you why we're banning you and we're keeping your money and by the way there's nothing you can do about it'

So they ban you, take your money and then refuse to engage with you when you query it.

An absolutely diabolical and arrogant company.

Most profiles are empty of any description and lots of old photos are being used.

Nearly all of the females I encountered had some kind of issue/ collection of red flags. I'm not going into details but most were fruit loops

There's maybe 1 in 1000 are genuine & attractive. Good luck finding them

The rest are the undateables and barrel scrapers
