About us

Established in 1960, the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) is a multi-employer defined benefit pension plan for Ontario's hospital and community-based healthcare sector. We serve more than 504,000 members who provide valued healthcare services at more than 870 employers across the province. At HOOPP, we exist to provide a stable and reliable pension for our members that starts in retirement and is paid for life. As one of Canada's largest and most respected pension plans, HOOPP's net assets reached $132 billion at the end of 2025 and our funded status remained strong at 109%. HOOPP's core values - accountable, compassionate and trustworthy - guide our every interaction with our members, employers and employees. We've become one of Canada's leading pension plans by consistently challenging ourselves and embracing innovation. From our unique investment management approach to our innovative technology and thought-provoking research, we constantly seek to push the boundaries, and we do this by hiring passionate, forward-thinking people. Our high-performance culture, which spans our head office in Toronto and our office in London (UK), is founded on collaboration, respect and belonging. HOOPP is an equal opportunity employer and we're proud of our diversity. We select applicants for employment solely on the basis of their qualifications. Updates

  • HOOPP was pleased to participate in this year’s Waterloo Women in Computer Science (WiCS) conference at the University of Waterloo, an event dedicated to supporting women and gender-diverse students exploring careers in computer science and technology. As part of the conference, HOOPP’s Jennifer Williams, VP, Information Security, joined a panel discussion where she shared insights from her career journey and experiences working in technology. From tech talks and career development sessions, the conference was a great opportunity for students to learn, network and connect with industry professionals. Thank you to the WiCS team for organizing the event. We’re proud to support initiatives that help inspire the next generation of tech leaders.

  • Nursing Week gave us the opportunity to connect with nurses and celebrate the work they do every day in communities across Ontario. These moments offer just a glimpse of the many conversations and connections made throughout the week. Each one reflecting the commitment and compassion at the heart of nursing. We’re proud to support Ontario nurses in building the foundations for a financially secure retirement. 💙 To read more stories from HOOPP members, working as nurses in Ontario, visit: https://lnkd.in/e5_agwFa #NursingWeek2026 #ThankYouNurses #HOOPPIsForHealthcare

  • HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan) reposted this

Last week, I joined pension and financial leaders for a roundtable discussion convened by Prime Minister Mark Carney on how government and the private sector can create the conditions for greater investment in Canada. At HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan), we see firsthand the value of investing in Canada. Nearly half of the Fund is invested here at home, supporting businesses, infrastructure and communities while helping us deliver on our pension promise. Our vision is to help build a stronger financial future for Ontario’s healthcare community. That means investing for the long term in ways that support both our members and a strong, competitive Canadian economy. We look forward to continuing this important dialogue and identifying new opportunities to unlock investment in the communities where our members live and work.

  • At HOOPP, service isn’t just measured in years — it’s reflected in the impact our people make every day. Today, we recognized employees reaching 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 year service milestones. Their contributions show up in the strength of our investments, the support we provide to members and employers, and the resilience of the Plan we manage. A special highlight of the day was celebrating three HOOPPsters marking 25 years! When they began their careers at HOOPP, the organization managed $17 billion in net assets and served 183,000 members. Today, we manage $132 billion in net assets and support more than 504,000 members across over 840 employers — growth shaped by their dedication. To everyone celebrating a milestone this year — thank you for the role you play in delivering on our pension promise to Ontario’s healthcare community. #HOOPPisforHealthcare

  • In April, HOOPP’s Making HERstory Employee Resource Group (ERG) brought colleagues together for an informal gathering focused on connections and community. As part of Making HERstory’s focus on supporting women and allies, the event welcomed employees of all genders to share experiences and contribute to a more inclusive and equitable workplace.    Employees met colleagues from across HOOPP over light refreshments, getting to know one another and learning from different perspectives. The event also helped strengthen relationships across teams.    Thank you to the Making HERstory ERG, Corporate Services team and all participants who helped shape the experience.

  • Nursing Week is a time to recognize the skill, dedication and care nurses bring to their work every day. Across the healthcare system, nurses support patients and families through moments that require trust, compassion and expertise – work that plays a vital role in our communities. We’re proud to provide nurses across Ontario with the secure lifetime pension they’ve earned, and the peace of mind they deserve as they work to support our communities today and over the course of their careers. 💙 To mark this important week, we're spotlighting the experience of some of our HOOPP members, as they share stories from their careers as nurses. • At HOOPP, we marked #MentalHealthWeek, embracing this year’s theme, ‘Come Together, Canada,’ by focusing on connection, reducing stigma and looking out for one another through small, meaningful actions.    Throughout the week, employees had opportunities to pause, reset and build practical skills for their wellbeing. Activities included a guided meditation session, on-site yoga, on-site massage therapy, a virtual seminar with Registered Psychotherapist Jhanelle Peters, and a lunch & learn with GreenShield, one of the resources available to employees.    We’re proud to support employee wellbeing through a range of resources and programs that promote mental, physical, and emotional health.

  • This morning, 75 #TeamHOOPP members laced up their running shoes and hit the streets of Toronto for our first-ever Sporting Life 10K! We loved seeing the energy our team brought to the race, raising over $56,000 in support of Campfire Circle, which provides community and care for kids facing childhood cancer or serious illness. Thanks to everyone who ran, walked, cheered or supported along the way. And a big thanks to our Culture Champions Employee Resource Group for helping make it easy and fun for employees to get involved.
