I don’t create brand new content every week. And I don’t think you need to either. For a long time, I thought good communications meant constant production. New post. New idea. New campaign. It felt like momentum. But when I sit with nonprofit teams now, I almost always see the same thing. They’re sitting on good material already. A case study that took months to gather. A proper research report. A donor update that clearly explained the work. A WhatsApp message that really resonated with your community. And then, we use it once. What I’ve started doing instead is treating one solid piece of work as the starting point, not the end point. So let’s say you’ve just published a case study. Instead of moving straight on to the next thing, I’ll go back into it and ask: what’s actually in here? Is there a stat that would work on LinkedIn? Is there a short story that could become a donor email? Is there a line your CEO could use in a pitch? Is there a paragraph that belongs on your website? You’re not creating something new. You’re extracting what’s already there and placing it differently. And because most people didn’t see it the first time (or didn’t read to the end), it doesn’t feel repetitive. It feels consistent. I’ve stopped asking clients, “What should we create next?” and started asking, “What have we already made that we haven’t fully used?” It’s a small shift. But it reduces pressure immediately.
