The EU just committed over €1.4 billion to help SMEs adopt AI. Most founders have no idea these programs exist. Here are 4 things Europe is building right now — specifically for small and mid-sized companies: 𝟭. AI Factories (19 regional hubs) The EU has created a network of 19 AI Factories linking supercomputers with universities, startups, and SMEs. Priority GPU access for training European models. Germany's JUPITER, Finland's LUMI, Spain's MareNostrum 5 — these aren't research labs. They're production infrastructure. Without sovereign compute, European SMEs stay locked into renting foreign infrastructure. 𝟮. Experience Centres (250+ Digital Innovation Hubs) The Commission's "Apply AI" strategy turns 250+ Digital Innovation Hubs into AI Experience Centres. What they offer: → Test Before Invest: Access to AI testing environments → Helpdesk: First-line support for AI Act compliance → Sovereign Cloud: Help fine-tuning models on local, secure infrastructure Think of it as a one-stop shop for "I want to use AI but don't know where to start." 𝟯. FFplus Funding (up to €300K per SME) The FFplus project, funded by EuroHPC, specifically targets SMEs working with generative AI. Up to €300,000 per innovation study. Designed for projects too advanced for typical grants but too risky for private investment alone. This is the "missing middle" funding that most SMEs don't know about. 𝟰. SME AI Accelerator (20,000 businesses) OpenAI partnered with Booking.com to train 20,000 European SMEs in AI skills. Open to all sectors. No technical background required. Running in France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Ireland, and the UK. The infrastructure exists. The funding exists. The training exists. The gap isn't resources — it's awareness. Save this post. One of these might be exactly what your company needs next quarter. — 📌 Save this post for later ♻️ Share it to inspire your network Follow Hartmut Hübner, PhD for AI insights that work. 📎 Sources: → EU AI Factories overview: https://lnkd.in/ee9V5MS8 → OpenAI SME Accelerator: https://lnkd.in/e-ix8Tz2 → EIC Work Programme 2026 (€1.4B): https://lnkd.in/eZuSAqPK

The Secret Weapon for Digital Transformation Most companies talk about innovation. Few organizations create the conditions for it to thrive. That’s where Innovation Labs come in. They are not side projects or vanity experiments. They are structured environments designed to help organizations … - think differently - test ideas fast - de-risk transformation. Why Innovation Labs Matter? + Provide safe spaces to experiment with emerging technologies before full-scale investment. + Allow teams to explore AI and digital solutions without fear of failure. + Bridge the gap between strategy and execution. + Facilitate collaboration between business, technology and customer teams. An effective Innovation Lab is less about gadgets and more about mindset. It’s where teams learn to … + Discuss problems, not symptoms. + Prototype quickly and validate early. + Learn from every iteration. + Scale successful experiments into measurable impact. In our experience at ISHIR, when leaders treat innovation as a capability instead of a department, transformation becomes sustainable. - Teams move faster. - Ideas move from whiteboard to pilot to product. - And risk turns into opportunity. The organizations that will WIN in the AI era are not the ones with the most tools, but the ones with the courage and systems to experiment continuously. Are you building your innovation ecosystem or waiting for someone else to disrupt you? At ISHIR, we have built Innovation Acceleration workshops that have the benefits of a Lab but our focus is on outcomes and impact, not just experiments. A lab is where ideas are tested. A workshop is where ideas are accelerated into action. In short, don’t experiment for the sake of innovation, instead focus on org transformation. Let’s accelerate innovation to deliver impact. Impact engineering, anyone? — 👋🏽 I help founders and tech leaders build scalable digital products, drive innovation leveraging AI, and reach product-market fit (PMF) faster.
