Less than one month to go: see you in Darmstadt on June 2-3 for the 2026 Automotive Innovation Forum! Starting next week, we will introduce all three finalists in this year’s student design competition. This week however, the jury would like to give special recognition to this team. It was a fierce debate in our jury as they narrowed down the contenders. After a long discussion, the 4th team from Prifysgol Cymru Y Drindod Dewi Sant / University of Wales Trinity Saint David came in 4th. Say hello to a very special Art Deco Alfa Romeo Montreal. The model was an excellent use of SubD and NURBS modelling, including a full interior. The hood and wheels were simply gorgeous with a perfect capture of the chosen aesthetic. Complemented by beautifully cinematic VRED shots and storytelling, UWTSD was oh so tantalizingly close to the podium. Hats off to them! #alias #vred #designeducation #aif26

Every week until AIF, we will highlight some of the competitors in this year’s student design competition. And we are moving ever closer to the top submissions. 🚀 Spotlight on Hochschule Hof, University of Applied Sciences. They tackled the very rare Bucciali 832 with a Bauhaus twist. The jury praised their Alias model as "probably one of the best" in the competition, highlighting their impeccable construction and detailed interior. However, the team narrowly missed the podium with two main pitfalls. First, the overall design didn't quite "scream" their chosen art movement as strongly as the winning entries. Second, their choice of a dark environment and dark colours unfortunately hid their phenomenal surfacing work. It was a car that begged to be shown in lighter colors or in natural light to admire its forms better. Despite this, HOF should be incredibly proud of their technical excellence.👏🚗✨ #alias #vred #designeducation #aif26

Every week leading up to AIF, we spotlight standout teams from this year’s student design competition. Team 1 at Rubika delivered exactly what you’d expect—and then pushed far beyond it. Taking on the delicate legacy of Ferrari’s iconic Breadvan, they reinterpreted it through a bold deconstructivist lens. The result: a prancing horse unlike anything you’ve seen before—provocative, unconventional, and impossible to ignore. True to standards, execution was flawless. Craftsmanship and presentation were impeccable. The concept? Wild and pushing the edge. One notable gap: while not mandatory, this year’s student-defined benchmark saw all finalists include interiors. Still, this is what design education is about: risk, experimentation, and rewriting expectations. Thank you, Rubika - we’re looking forward to what you do next.
