On May 22, 2026, Dr. Joss Reimer, Chief Public Health Officer of Canada, provided updates on the Ebola disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Andes hantavirus situation in Canada. She noted that while the Ebola disease outbreak is a serious and evolving situation, the risk to people in Canada remains low at this time. The Public Health Agency of Canada is monitoring the situation closely in collaboration with the World Health Organization and international partners. Dr. Reimer also confirmed that no additional Andes hantavirus cases have been identified in Canada beyond the initial case in British Columbia. High-risk contacts are being monitored by local public health authorities.
