Precision Combustion, Inc. will be at the 2026 ARPA-E Energy Innovation Summit in San Diego, California, April 7–9, with three booths highlighting projects from AMPLIFY, REEACH, and JOULES-1K. First up: AMPLIFY. At our AMPLIFY booth (Booth # 1237), we’ll be highlighting pilot testing and validation data of our trailer mounted, catalytic oxidation system for ventilation air methane (VAM) abatement, currently being tested at an underground coal mine site. The system has been in operation for ~6,200 hours (to date) with up to 99% DRE. We’ll also have a virtual reality (VR) experience at the booth, giving attendees a closer look at PCI’s demo unit in an immersive, on-site setting. Yesterday the Net Zero Technology Centre Tech X Cohort 8 were taken for a fascinating visit to the National Decommissioning Centre. Pride of place amongst their many facilities is a 9m diameter simulator that allows complex marine operations to be simulated in a 300 degree immersive environment. Running the physics of waves, boats, cranes and the like it allows costly operations to be de-risked from the comfort and safety of dry land. One thing is for sure: after my attempt to (virtually) land a module on the back of a service vessel I will not be allowed anywhere near an offshore crane any time soon. Whilst waves and boats are not directly relevant to our development of concentrated solar technology at Orchid Solar it did get me thinking. How can we make better use of simulation tools to accelerate and de-risk our technology. #SolarThermal #IndustrialHeat

During a recent customer event, I got a great question from a fellow wave geek: “What’s better – time series or spectrum-based wave measurements?” It’s a classic discussion. Both approaches have their pros and cons, and we could easily spend hours debating accuracy, resolution, and applications. But this plot tells a more important story 👇 Even within a relatively small wind farm, significant wave height varies materially between sensors at the same moment in time. So the real question isn’t just how you measure waves… It’s where you measure them. Because if your data isn’t representative of the actual conditions where decisions are made, the method becomes secondary. 👉 Imagine making operational decisions based on: - a single measurement point - or worse, a model with coarse grid resolution In cases like this, that can lead to meaningful deviations from reality. A couple of months ago at PTC'26, I had an unscripted and frank chat with Mike Sirard (CTO, MPI Narada), a recognized leader in LFP BESS deployment for mission-critical data centers. It is encouraging to see MPI Narada blazing a trail by conducting full-spectrum cell and battery characterization—going well beyond the safety bars set by industry standards like UL and IEC, which are often mistakenly accepted as PROOF that a battery system is absolutely safe. While safety regulations are vital for setting a baseline, there are currently no universal standards for operational performance. In a market rushing to meet under-budget, timely deployments, many hyper-scalers and utility companies are forced to rely on OEM claims with limited characterization data and full scale modeling. This has led to a "Mandarin vs. Orange" comparison—they may look the same on the shelf, but the internal performance and risk profiles are vastly different. At Blue Nova Energy LLC, we believe that "good enough" isn't enough for critical infrastructure.
