“Great products are not built only with logic and process. They are built by teams that believe they can create a little magic together.” Product leadership often gets framed in terms of frameworks, roadmaps, agile boards and processes. Those matter. But they are not enough. At some point, building a real product demands belief; belief that a team can create something that, on paper, looks almost impossible. About a decade ago, I received a call from a customer. The message was blunt: the project might have to be stopped. Not because it was technically impossible, but because the timeline was. Their internal estimate suggested it would take quite a long time to complete. Our team was supporting the effort, but at that moment we stepped forward and said something simple: “Give us two months. We will have a go at it.” And we did. What made it possible was not heroics or luck. It was deep system-level experience, the ability to see the architecture clearly, and a team that believed the problem could be solved differently. What we built did not remain a demo or prototype. It went into the real world and ran successfully for nearly a decade. But belief works both ways. In another situation, we invested enormous effort building a product the right way: experimenting, engineering every detail, integrating multiple subsystems, and leveraging components that previously existed only in fragments. Anyone who has built real products knows this truth: integration itself is engineering. You can buy every part of a motorcycle. But unless you understand how they work together, you don’t have a motorcycle. You just have a pile of parts. That partner never believed we could do it. Eventually, they walked away. And that is when the lesson becomes clear. Great products are not only about technology, process or effort. They also require shared belief: between engineers, leaders, partners and customers. Because without that belief, teams stop before the magic happens. Right now, we’re running HCI tests across all of them — but with a twist. Each team tries to set traps for the others. Where would users hesitate? Where would they misunderstand the flow? Where would they click the wrong thing? What happens if someone speed-runs it… or misuses it completely? If your product can’t survive internal sabotage, it won’t survive real users.
