According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), more than 106 million people in the U.S. have asthma and/or allergies. Research shows that social determinants of health (SDoHs; e.g., housing, transportation, socioeconomic status, health care access, etc.) contribute to asthma and allergy outcomes; that is, asthma and allergy health disparities are affected by differences in SDoHs, which disproportionately affect racial and ethnic minority communities. This results in underdiagnoses or delayed asthma and/or allergy diagnoses, limited access to specialists, and higher adverse health outcomes among low-income and underrepresented minorities. Every February, I see the same pattern: allergists bracing for the spring pollen surge, knowing their schedules will soon overflow with urgent visits from patients seeking symptom relief. But some practices have cracked the code on pre-season protocols. Emerging research suggests that patients who start antihistamines and nasal corticosteroids 2-4 weeks before pollen exposure see meaningfully better symptom control throughout the season. The challenge isn't the clinical evidence—it's the workflow execution. Identifying which patients need early intervention, ensuring medication adherence before symptoms appear, and coordinating appropriate follow-ups requires systematic tracking that often overwhelms clinical staff. What we've learned from our partner clinics: the practices that successfully implement pre-season protocols see fewer emergency visits and higher patient satisfaction. But they've had to build robust systems for patient identification, automated outreach, and adherence monitoring. The administrative burden is real, but the clinical payoff—smoother seasonal workflows and better patient outcomes—makes it worth the investment. AI tools are starting to help by automating patient identification and follow-up scheduling, but the clinical oversight remains essential. See how it works at medoramd.ai/demo How does your practice handle pre-season allergy protocols? #AAAAI #ACAAI #AllergyAndImmunology #AllergyMedicine #ClinicalWorkflow #HealthTech #AllergyPractice #MedoraAI
