Grateful to Wisconsin Health News for not only convening this conversation, but for framing it the right way. Value-based care doesn't need a eulogy, it needs exactly this: serious people in the same room, asking hard questions and leaning forward. One question that came up stuck with me after we wrapped: “What would have to happen to get to full capitation in five years?” It’s a great question which we didn’t have nearly enough time to do justice. The honest answer involves physician alignment, data infrastructure, regulatory will, payer readiness, and a fundamental shift in how health systems think about risk. Each of those deserves its own conversation. If you’re a healthcare professional who wants to dig into what it would actually take, what’s in the way, and whether five years is even realistic, I’d enjoy that conversation. More of this, not less.
Panelists leaned into their support for value-based care at a Wisconsin Health News panel Wednesday. https://lnkd.in/geBGaaCh

The egregious price markups charged by some hospitals and private equity-packed providers are making health care unaffordable. Health plans work to protect patients from high and rising medical costs, but unfair provider pricing drives up premiums. Common-sense policy solutions can address the root causes of high costs and make health care more affordable. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eEQqWyFv

Healthcare cost and quality aren’t separate conversations, and it’s become clear that quality is the biggest driver of healthcare spend. Improving quality means helping people avoid unnecessary care, poorly delivered care and the wrong providers from the start. That’s where the real impact is.
