All the signs were reassuring — but Briana had a gut feeling something was wrong. A registered nurse at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Briana was caring for a patient after a biopsy. Despite strong vitals, she noticed they were lethargic and alerted her assistant nurse manager. “There was no hesitation in calling a rapid response because I recognized that my patient needed immediate help,” says Briana. “I wanted to make sure they got the care they needed right away.” After immediate care, the patient was brought for a CT scan, and a massive bleed was discovered. Briana's instincts had saved a life. It's her favorite part of nursing: seeing patients recover and regain their strength. "There’s nothing quite like seeing a patient smile again as they start to feel better. It never gets old,” she says. Briana has been part of the Hackensack Meridian Health family for about a year and a half, shortly after graduating with her BSN — but her passion goes back much further. “I knew from a young age that I wanted to become a nurse. When I was two years old, my mother was in a car accident that nearly took her life. I witnessed firsthand the care and compassion that nurses provided in the years after the accident,” she says. This #NursesWeek and beyond, we are so grateful to have the skill, commitment and care of Briana and so many others on our team. #PeopleofHMH
