European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC)’s Post

During the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva, ECDC Director Dr Pamela Rendi-Wagner met with several international partners, reaffirming European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC)’s commitment to global health security. ECDC Director met with Dr. Jean Kaseya - Director-General of Africa CDC, to discuss the Ebola disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where they agreed to deploy an ECDC expert to Africa CDC in Addis Ababa. Meetings with Prof. Manaf Alqahtani, new CEO of Gulf Center For Disease Prevention and Control | المركز الخليجي للوقاية من الأمراض ومكافحتها, Prof Zoe Wainer - Director-General of The Australian Centre for Disease Control, and Prof. Vernon Lee - CEO, Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) took place in the margins of the Assembly, reinforcing joint commitments to strengthening global health collaboration.    ECDC Director gave a presentation in the Side Event “Strengthening Global Pandemic Preparedness: Collaborative Approaches for Rapid and Resilient Responses”, hosted by CDA, Robert Koch Institute, and World Health Organization, highlighting the critical role of regional public health institutions in strengthening pandemic preparedness and response and referred to the joint effort in managing the hantavirus outbreak as a best practice example of strong collaboration.   ECDC remains committed to working closely with its international partners to address current and emerging global health challenges. #InternationalCooperation #ECDC #AfricaCDC #RKI #CDA #AustraliaCDC #WHO #GulfCDC
