2026 is a year of meaningful progress for circularity, with new Deposit Return Schemes (DRS) being launched around the world to accelerate true can-to-can recycling. This month alone, Portugal and Singapore have introduced new collection systems for beverage containers. This is an important milestone that will significantly boost collection and improve the recovery of high value materials such as aluminum. Both Portugal and Singapore have set high performance indicators : Portugal aligning with the EU’s PPWR target of 90% collection by 2029, while Singapore’s nationwide system is aiming for 80% collection. Together, these launches represent a major step toward higher‑performance circularity across both markets and reinforce the role deposit systems play in enabling closed‑loop recycling. For Crown, these systems are critical enablers of a fully closed loop, can-to-can recycling model. High quality collection directly supports higher recycled content in new cans, driving decarbonization across our value chain and unlock the full sustainable potential of aluminum. Beyond supporting these systems, we are actively adapting our operations to ensure they work in practice. As DRS schemes require distinctive marks or logos to clearly identify eligible containers, we work hand in hand with our customers to adapt artworks while maintaining the highest print quality. As DRS adoption accelerates globally, we continue to work closely with industry partners across the value chain to strengthen collection, improve recycling quality, and keep aluminum circulating at its highest value. #Circularity #DRS #Sustainability Photo: Every Can Counts

Recycling Revolution in Spain! ♻️ Starting November 2026, Spain will implement a mandatory deposit return system (SDDR) for bottles and beverage cans. This measure aims to boost the circular economy and reduce waste, with a technical focus on traceability and efficiency in recycling processes. 📈 How Does the System Work? 🔄 - Consumers will pay a deposit of 0.10€ for each container (PET bottles up to 3L, aluminum cans, and glass). - They must return the empty containers to supermarkets or authorized collection machines to recover the deposit instantly. - The system will use RFID technology and barcodes to verify and process returns, ensuring an efficient 90% recycling rate by 2025. Environmental and Economic Impact 🌍 This initiative, approved by the Government, will align Spain with European standards like those in Germany and Sweden. It will reduce plastics in landfills, promote reuse, and generate jobs in the green industry. For businesses, it implies adaptations in supply chains and sustainable logistics. 💼 For more information visit: https://enigmasecurity.cl #Sustainability #Recycling #CircularEconomy #Environment #GreenInnovation #Spain Connect with me on LinkedIn to discuss sustainability trends: https://lnkd.in/dj8wrubg 📅 Tue, 21 Apr 2026 00:11:52 +0200 🔗Subscribe to the Membership: https://lnkd.in/eh_rNRyt

Really interesting piece from Verpact on how industry can get ahead of PPWR recyclability requirements. The key takeaway for me - don’t wait for perfect clarity. There’s a lot of noise right now (especially on labelling), but the fundamentals are already clear: - know your packaging (materials, formats, suppliers) - get your data structure in place - engage suppliers early - avoid over-engineering based on guidance that’s still evolving This came through strongly in a recent PPWR/EPR readiness session I delivered for a Swedish retailer - the real challenge isn’t understanding the regulation, it’s applying it in practice across complex supply chains. Good to see alignment from schemes like Näringslivets Producentansvar too - this kind of consistency is exactly what’s needed. Curious how others are approaching it - acting now, or waiting for more detail?
The clock is ticking for plastic packaging in Europe. With the upcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), recyclability is no longer optional, it will soon be a legal requirement for every company placing packaging on the EU market. To help the industry prepare, we’ve joined forces with leading European PROs: Fost Plus, Valipac, Citeo, Valorlux asbl, Grønt Punkt Norge AS and Näringslivets Producentansvar. Together, we introduce the Design for Recycling: No Regrets. A practical, no-regret tool to help companies navigate the uncertainty and start designing packaging that meets future recyclability criteria. https://lnkd.in/e3BTeVPQ 💡 What makes these No Regrets valuable? It highlights where there is already industry consensus, and where uncertainty remains across guidelines and upcoming standards. This allows companies to make informed design choices today, instead of waiting. 👉 Key message: don’t wait. Even though not all details are final, the direction is clear. Companies can already take action by: • Mapping packaging portfolio and the composition of each package• Following emerging “traffic light” design criteria • Designing for compatibility in case of multi-component packaging • Minimising inks, adhesives and coatings • Ensuring packaging can be properly sorted • Engaging suppliers now As the transition accelerates, early movers will not only stay compliant, but they’ll also gain a competitive edge. Because this isn’t just a regulation. It’s a system shift toward a circular packaging economy. Great to see progress with DRS in Portugal and Singapore—proof that the right systems drive real circularity. Next step: all countries should prioritize recycling of the most sustainable beverage packaging—aluminum cans. They can be recycled endlessly without losing quality, enabling true can-to-can circularity with low climate impact. Aluminum isn’t just part of the solution—it’s one of the clearest examples of circularity in action.
