Accepting the challenge used by Dr. Michael McFarland, Superintendent of Crowley ISD, “If not you, then who? If not now, then when?” I had the opportunity to showcase the Booster K1 Robot to middle school students from across Tarrant County—and their excitement said it all. From curiosity to big dreams, students were fully engaged as they explored what’s possible with robotics, AI, and STEM in their future. Many shared that they wished they had access to this kind of technology in their own schools… and that’s exactly why this work matters. This Institute focused on developing aspiring leaders—from campus to district leadership, including athletics—and there is no better place to begin building that leadership mindset than with the young, moldable minds we serve every day. John Hattie’s research makes a compelling case that collective teacher efficacy is one of the strongest influences on student achievement. When teachers believe, together, that they can help students succeed, that belief changes expectations, effort, persistence, and outcomes for kids. The same logic applies to leadership. If collective teacher efficacy matters for students, then collective leadership efficacy matters for teachers. When leaders believe, together, that they can create the conditions for teachers to thrive, schools become more focused, more coherent, and more supportive. Teachers feel the difference. And when teachers feel supported, aligned, and capable, students are far more likely to succeed. In other words: collective teacher efficacy lifts students, and collective leadership efficacy lifts the teachers who lift the students. That is why school improvement is never just about individual talent.
