Position Overview
Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Technical Services Manager for a direct hire opportunity supporting retro-commissioning and commissioning initiatives across multiple projects. This leadership role is responsible for driving project execution, team development, scheduling, quality outcomes, and performance targets while ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, experience managing commissioning projects, and expertise in building systems, automation, mechanical/electrical systems, and project execution. This position collaborates closely with engineering, construction, and project delivery teams to support successful outcomes across assigned project scopes.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Team Management
Lead, mentor, and develop assigned technical services team members
Provide guidance and support to ensure project goals and performance expectations are achieved
Participate in staffing strategy, project planning, KPI development, and project estimates
Promote a solutions-focused approach to project execution and team collaboration
Uphold organizational standards, processes, and operating procedures
Project Planning & Execution
Develop and maintain project execution plans for assigned projects and scopes
Establish project schedules and ensure milestones are achieved within budget and timeline requirements
Integrate assigned workstreams into larger project schedules and actively participate in scheduling meetings
Coordinate with project leadership to identify and resolve scheduling conflicts or resource constraints
Monitor project progress and continuously track KPIs and project deliverables
Budget & Performance Management
Develop and maintain monthly project cost forecasts
Track project performance metrics and maintain project financial accountability
Review project expenses and time allocations to ensure budget adherence and accuracy
Coordinate staffing utilization and resource allocation to optimize project execution
Technical & Project Coordination
Collaborate with engineering teams, construction management, project leadership, and trade partners
Maintain awareness of project scope changes involving MEP and automation disciplines
Coordinate project requirements and ensure all scope details are documented and communicated appropriately
Work across project teams including design, construction, energy, and operations stakeholders
Issue Resolution & Risk Management
Identify, document, communicate, and help resolve project issues and deficiencies
Proactively escalate project constraints and risks impacting schedules, budgets, or deliverables
Collaborate with project teams to develop action plans and prioritize solutions
Ensure all project communications are properly documented and followed through to completion
Project Closeout & Documentation
Support project closeout activities including reporting, turnover meetings, team reviews, and lessons learned sessions
Ensure project documentation and deliverables are completed accurately and timely
Maintain project records and reporting requirements throughout the project lifecycle
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical field
Minimum 5+ years of commissioning or related experience involving:
Mechanical systems
Electrical systems
Building automation systems
Building operations or controls environments
Strong leadership and team development skills
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
Ability to work effectively with limited information in fast-paced environments
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Experience using cloud-based commissioning software platforms
Building automation systems design and programming experience
Preferred Qualifications
Engineering Intern (EI) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
Commissioning certifications such as ACG, BCxA, ASHRAE, or equivalent
Prior experience leading technical project teams within commissioning environments
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Occasional travel to project sites and office locations as needed
Ability to climb stairs, ladders, scaffolding, ramps, and similar access points
Ability to remain seated or standing for prolonged periods
Frequent use of hands and repetitive motions
Ability to operate machinery and power tools as required
Ability to work in office, construction site, and outdoor environments with varying noise levels and weather conditions
Ability to occasionally lift or move objects up to 50 pounds
