Software Test Engineer

One of the country's most innovative autonomous technology companies is searching for a LiDAR Software Test Engineer to join their Advanced Hardware Engineering team 100% onsite in Foster City, CA. In this role, you will play a critical part in shaping the reliability and efficiency of cutting-edge LiDAR systems by building the tools, scripts, and scalable infrastructure that the hardware engineering team depends on every day. This exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of autonomous hardware development begins as a 6-month W2 contract role based onsite 5 days per week in Foster City, CA. The position offers competitive benefits along with the potential to extend beyond the initial contract duration and/or convert to permanent employment.

Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and maintain testing software used by the LiDAR hardware engineering team
• Build robust, scalable tools and scripts to support hardware control and data analysis workflows
• Design and maintain packet decoders and PCAP parsers to support testing operations
• Implement and uphold best practices for codebase organization, structure, and scalability
• Contribute to large-scale data processing pipelines and ensure high data quality standards
• Create and maintain thorough documentation to support tool usability across the team
• Support CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks where applicable

Skills & Experience

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
• 5+ years of experience in software or computer engineering
• Strong proficiency in Python or other scripting languages
• Hands-on experience developing software for hardware control and high-volume data processing
• Solid understanding of networking and communication protocols, including TCP, UDP, and HTTP
• Proven experience building software tools, packet decoders, and PCAP parsers
• Demonstrated ability to organize, maintain, and scale a shared codebase for broader team use
• Strong written communication and technical documentation skills

Preferred

• Familiarity with CI/CD workflows and automated testing methodologies
• Experience with AWS or other cloud-based data platforms
• Background in autonomous vehicles, robotics, or a related hardware-driven industry
