Nexus Children’s Hospital in The Woodlands provides specialized inpatient care for children and adolescents diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS). PWS is a genetic disorder that can affect appetite regulation, behavior, emotional control, and developmental functioning, requiring a highly structured and closely supervised treatment environment.
Our program focuses on behavioral management,medical stability, and skill development in a supportive inpatient setting. Our interdisciplinary team works closely with patients and their families to promote safety, independence, and improved quality of life through individualized treatment plans and evidence-based care.
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct nursing care to pediatric patients with Prader-Willi Syndrome and other complex medical and behavioral conditions. The RN works as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care while maintaining the structured environment required for this patient population.
This role requires strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and comfort working with patients who may have developmental, behavioral, and medical complexities.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct nursing care in accordance with physician orders and individualized care plans
Administer medications, treatments, and medical interventions safely and accurately
Monitor patient health status, behavior, and emotional presentation
Maintain structured environments, including supervision related to food security protocols
Respond to behavioral escalations using approved de-escalation techniques
Collaborate with physicians, therapists, behavioral specialists, and dietitians
Educate families on treatment plans, medications, and behavioral strategies
Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record
Follow Nexus policies, HIPAA standards, and all regulatory requirements
Support patient safety initiatives and quality improvement activities
Promote a therapeutic, structured environment that supports patient progress
Qualifications
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas required
BLS certification required
ACLS and PALS required within 45 days of hire
De-escalation training required within 30 days of hire
Associate Degree in Nursing required, BSN preferred
Minimum 1–2 years of nursing experience preferred
Pediatric, behavioral health, or inpatient experience strongly preferred
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical team
