A leading global alternative investment firm is seeking a senior Compensation Principal/Managing Director to join its Human Capital leadership team. This individual will play a critical role in shaping and overseeing the firm’s global compensation strategy across a multi-asset investment platform.


The role sits at the intersection of Human Resources, Finance, and senior leadership, with responsibility for ensuring that compensation programs are competitive, equitable, and aligned with the firm’s long-term talent and business strategy.


This is a highly visible, advisory-driven position with both strategic influence and hands-on ownership of global compensation programs.


Role Mandate

The successful candidate will lead the design, governance, and execution of global compensation frameworks, ensuring alignment with market best practices and internal equity principles. The role requires close partnership with senior executives and functional leaders across the organization.

Key focus areas include executive compensation strategy, annual compensation cycles, incentive design, and market benchmarking across investment management talent pools.


Core Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and refinement of global compensation philosophy and framework
  • Ensure alignment between compensation structures, business strategy, and talent objectives
  • Advise senior leadership on executive and broad-based compensation matters
  • Oversee base pay, annual incentive, and long-term incentive programs (including equity and carry structures)
  • Manage annual compensation review cycles, including promotions, merit increases, and bonus allocation
  • Ensure consistency, governance, and scalability across business units
  • Conduct benchmarking and market analysis using external compensation survey data
  • Track industry trends across investment management and broader financial services
  • Translate insights into actionable compensation recommendations
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on compensation and retention strategy
  • Partner with HR and Talent Acquisition on hiring and compensation decisions
  • Provide data-driven recommendations to support executive decision-making
  • Deliver compensation reporting, pay equity analysis, and market competitiveness insights
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and internal governance standards
  • Collaborate with Finance and Legal on compensation controls and alignment



Candidate Profile

  • 8–10+ years of progressive compensation experience, ideally within financial services or asset management
  • Strong understanding of incentive-based and equity/carry compensation structures
  • Advanced analytical and data interpretation capabilities
  • Proven ability to operate at both strategic and hands-on execution levels
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to influence senior stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of compensation governance and regulatory frameworks
  • Leadership or team development experience strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, HR, or related field (advanced degree a plus)
