Beacon Health is building the patient management platform that orthopedic ASCs and surgeon-owned practices actually want to use. We help surgical teams cut preventable cancellations, get patients surgery-ready without the phone tag, and stay ahead of the CMS PRO-PM mandate landing in 2028. The platform is built, the first design partner conversations are underway, and we're looking for a surgeon to help shape what comes next.
Role Description
The Founding Medical Advisor is Beacon Health's first clinical hire and a true ground-floor role. You'll work directly with the founder to sharpen the product against real surgical workflows, open doors to design partners in your network, and help shape the clinical and go-to-market roadmap. This is not a medical affairs or market access role — it's a builder's role for a surgeon who wants to help shape an early-stage company and has the network to accelerate it.
Part-time, roughly 8-12 hours per month, remote. Based anywhere in the US. Compensation is founding equity until we fundraise.
What you'll do
Pressure-test the product against how orthopedic surgery actually works — pre-op clearance pathways, day-of cancellations, post-op follow-up, the parts that look fine on paper and fall apart in clinic.
Open doors. Introduce Beacon to surgeon-owners, ASC medical directors, and practice administrators in your network who'd be strong design partner candidates.
Sit in on design partner calls and help us read the room — what's a real objection, what's a stall, what's a buying signal.
Shape the clinical roadmap: which workflows we build for next, which specialties we expand into, where the evidence story needs to be sharper.
Represent Beacon at one or two industry events a year (ASCA, AAOS, Becker's, OASCA) if it fits your schedule.
Who we're looking for
Board-certified orthopedic surgeon, ideally 10+ years post-fellowship, with meaningful TKA/THA volume in an outpatient or ASC setting.
A real network — you can text five surgeon-owners or ASC medical directors today and get a response. This is the most important qualification on this list. Clinical excellence without commercial relationships isn't the fit for this specific role.
Comfortable with the business side of surgery: PNL conversations, ASC ownership economics, payer dynamics, the difference between what a corporate strategy deck says and what a Tuesday morning in the OR actually looks like.
Bonus: prior advisory work with a health tech company, AAOS or AAHKS committee involvement, ASC medical directorship, or experience as a practice president.
Comfortable being early. We don't have a marketing team, a sales team, or a communications team. We have a product, a thesis, and momentum.
What you'll get
Meaningful founding equity (range discussed in conversation; this is a real ownership stake, not a token grant), with standard vestingA direct line to the founder and real influence over what gets built.
First look at converting to a full Chief Medical Officer role as Beacon scales, if that's something you want.
A say in the clinical roadmap and the company's go-to-market — your network and judgment will shape what Beacon becomes.
Roughly 8–12 hours a month, flexible.
