We have an outstanding opportunity for a Director, Technology Digital Commerce to own the architecture, engineering standards, and hands-on development across our brand sites, while partnering closely with the Director, Product Management – Digital Commerce to translate strategy into scalable, high-quality software. This role carries both individual contributor and people leadership responsibilities — you will write code, set the technical direction, and grow the engineering team around you.
This is a full-time remote role.
Salary Range: Up to $150k plus bonus

What Your Day Looks Like
Technical Architecture & Standards
Design and own the end-to-end technical architecture of our ecommerce platforms, ensuring scalability, performance, and maintainability across all brand storefronts.
Establish and enforce coding standards, best practices, and code review processes to maintain engineering excellence across the team.
Lead the evaluation and adoption of new technologies, frameworks, and third-party integrations (e.g., CDN, search, personalization tools).
Define and steward front-end architecture decisions including component libraries, design system integration, and API consumption patterns.
Hands-On Development
Actively contribute production-quality code across the stack — including storefront development, API integrations, and platform customizations.
Lead technical implementation for high-priority or high-complexity features, serving as a hands-on model for engineering quality.
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and deployment workflows to support rapid, reliable delivery.
Project Delivery
Partner with the Director, Product Management – Digital Commerce to translate product requirements into technical designs, effort estimates, and delivery plans.
Drive sprint execution in an Agile/Scrum environment — removing blockers, managing technical debt, and ensuring commitments are met.
Own technical risk identification and mitigation across the roadmap, communicating tradeoffs clearly to product and business stakeholders.
Ensure site reliability and performance targets (Core Web Vitals, uptime SLAs) are met and monitored proactively.
Enterprise Systems Partnership
Serve as the primary technical liaison between the ecommerce engineering team and the Enterprise Technology organization, aligning on integration standards, shared services, and system dependencies.
Own the technical design and ongoing health of integrations between ecommerce platforms and enterprise systems (ERP, OMS, PIM, 3PL), ensuring data accuracy, reliability, and performance across system boundaries.
Collaborate with Enterprise Technology on roadmap alignment, change management, and cross-functional projects where ecommerce and back-office systems intersect (e.g., inventory sync, order management, customer data flows).
Team Leadership & Resource Planning
Mentor and grow a team of engineers, conducting code reviews, providing technical guidance, and supporting career development.
Lead resource planning for the engineering team, including capacity forecasting, skills gap analysis, and hiring recommendations.
Define onboarding standards and technical documentation practices to enable team scalability.
Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the engineering organization.
What We’re Looking For
5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 1 year in a technical lead or senior engineering role focused on ecommerce platforms
Deep hands-on experience with Shopify (Shopify Plus preferred), including theme development, Liquid, Shopify APIs, and app integrations
Proficiency in modern front-end technologies (JavaScript/TypeScript, React or similar frameworks) and RESTful/GraphQL API development
Proven ability to design and implement scalable system architecture in a multi-brand or multi-storefront environment
Experience establishing engineering best practices: code review culture, automated testing, CI/CD, and documentation standards
Strong project delivery background — able to plan, estimate, and execute against roadmaps in an Agile environment
Experience with performance optimization for ecommerce (Core Web Vitals, page speed, caching strategies)
Demonstrated people leadership: mentoring engineers, conducting performance conversations, and contributing to hiring decisions
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders, including product managers and executives
Hands-on experience integrating ecommerce platforms with enterprise systems (ERP, OMS, PIM, 3PL) and collaborating with enterprise IT or technology teams on shared infrastructure and data flows
