Director of Operations
Remote (U.S.) | Full-Time
$100,000 Base + Uncapped Commission

While most boutique HR firms still operate through spreadsheets and inbox chaos, we’ve built a scalable operating system powered by:
- Custom AI workflows
- A live case management hub
- Structured client delivery systems
- Process-driven HR operations
This is our first senior operations hire — and one of the most important roles in the company.
The Director of Operations will own service delivery, help drive growth, and play a major role in shaping how this business scales. If you’re looking for a seat at the table instead of another corporate middle-management role, this is that opportunity.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $100,000
- Commission: 20% on annualized revenue from new clients you source, close, or materially advance
- Commission Structure: Uncapped and paid at signing
- Realistic Year 1 Earnings: $125,000–$175,000+
- PTO: Defined in offer
- Benefits: Expanding as the firm grows
This role is designed for someone motivated by ownership, autonomy, and upside.
Location
Remote within the United States.
California or Bay Area candidates are preferred for occasional in-person collaboration with the founder, though strong candidates nationwide are encouraged to apply.
What You’ll Own
Service Delivery
- Ensure every active client receives consistent, high-quality, and on-time HR support
- Own operational accountability and SLA performance
Operations Infrastructure
- Manage and improve our case management systems, implementation trackers, AI workflows, and client delivery operations
- Help determine future systems and operational buildouts
Client Lifecycle
- Own onboarding, recurring delivery cadence, quarterly business reviews, renewals, and overall client experience
Business Development
- Build pipeline through outbound activity, referrals, and relationship development
- Partner with the founder on warm opportunities and strategic growth initiatives
Team Building
- Help define future roles and hire HR consultants and specialists as the company scales
- Establish onboarding processes and quality standards
Process & Quality
- Create scalable templates, SOPs, review systems, escalation paths, and operational playbooks
Reporting
- Deliver clear weekly and monthly operational reporting to leadership
- Identify bottlenecks, trends, and opportunities proactively
Qualifications
Required
- 7+ years of combined HR leadership and operations leadership experience
- Strong California employment law experience preferred, with multi-state HR compliance knowledge
- Experience with wage & hour, leave management, employee relations, investigations, classification, and terminations
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR strongly preferred
- Comfortable with CRMs, project management systems, dashboards, and automation tools
- Proven success building or scaling a services business, HR department, or consulting function
- Strong commercial instincts and comfort in client-facing environments
- Excellent written communication and high discretion with confidential information
Preferred
- Experience at a boutique HR consultancy, fractional HR firm, or PEO
- Experience implementing AI or automation within HR workflows
- Background supporting hospitality, nonprofit, or multi-location organizations
- Comfortable operating inside a fast-moving, founder-led environment
Ideal Background
You may come from one of the following paths:
- HR operator turned operations leader at a consultancy or boutique services firm
- Senior #2 at a 5–30 person HR consulting, employment law, or PEO organization
- Customer success or implementation leadership within an HR tech company
- Fractional HR leader looking for one long-term home with real growth potential
Experience with platforms such as:
- Gusto
- Rippling
- Justworks
- TriNet
- BambooHR
…or similar HR technology environments is highly valued.
