The Assistant Director of Gyms is a people-first, execution-focused leader responsible for ensuring that Sender One’s standards, systems, and core values are consistently executed across all assigned gym locations.
This role bridges company strategy and in-gym reality—translating priorities into clear action, driving follow-through, and holding a high bar for execution across every part of the gym experience.
Through hands-on coaching, operational oversight, and consistent presence in gyms, the Assistant Director develops Gym Managers and their teams, strengthens day-to-day execution, and ensures every location delivers a high-quality, consistent Sender One experience.
This is an on-site leadership role requiring regular presence across assigned Sender One locations, as determined by the Director of Gyms.
Responsibilities
People Leadership & Development:
Coach and develop Gym Managers through regular 1:1s, real-time feedback, and structured development plans
Reinforce Sender One’s Core Values by modeling expectations and holding leaders accountable in daily operations
Support Gym Managers in building strong, values-aligned teams across all departments
Partner with Gym Managers on performance management, including coaching through difficult conversations and ensuring timely follow-through
Identify leadership gaps and actively develop emerging leaders within each gym
Ensure Gym Managers are clear on expectations, priorities, and what success looks like in their role
Operational Execution & Consistency
Ensure consistent execution of Sender One standards across all assigned gyms, including:
customer experience
risk and safety
cleanliness and facility standards
Sender City operations
programs and classes
Conduct regular in-person site visits, audits, and floor presence to inspect and uphold standards
Identify execution gaps quickly and work directly with Gym Managers to implement clear, timely action plans
Drive adoption and consistent use of SOPs, systems, and company-wide initiatives
Ensure that new initiatives are not just communicated, but fully implemented and sustained over time
Act as the primary point of accountability for day-to-day operational consistency across locations
Programs & Community Experience
Partner with Gym Managers and Program Leads to ensure strong, consistent execution of:
youth programs and camps
adult instruction
climbing teams
yoga and fitness offerings
Ensure programs are delivered consistently across locations in alignment with company standards
Identify execution gaps in programming and implement improvements to increase participation, retention, and overall quality
Support Gym Managers in staffing, scheduling, and operational delivery of programs
Maintain a high bar for guest experience across all program offerings
Financial Performance & KPI Execution
Support Gym Managers in achieving financial targets across:
membership growth
program revenue
payroll management
Review KPIs regularly with Gym Managers and drive clear action plans to address performance gaps
Identify trends in performance and ensure timely adjustments are made at the gym level
Reinforce accountability to labor targets, revenue goals, and operational efficiency through consistent follow-up
Ensure Gym Managers are not only aware of their numbers, but taking action on them
Accountability & Follow-Through
Translate company priorities into clear, actionable expectations at the gym level
Maintain consistent communication and follow-up to ensure priorities are executed
Track progress across locations and hold Gym Managers accountable to timelines and outcomes
Ensure commitments made by Gym Managers and teams are completed fully and on time
Escalate larger risks, performance concerns, or systemic issues to the Director of Gyms when needed
Act as a key driver of execution discipline across all assigned gyms
Cross-Functional Execution
Partner with Marketing, Routesetting, Risk & Safety, and Facilities teams to support strong on-the-ground execution
Ensure Gym Managers are effectively implementing cross-functional initiatives in daily operations
Identify and remove barriers that impact execution across departments
Provide feedback to cross-functional teams on what is and isn’t working at the gym level
Profile
Strong operator with multi-department or multi-location leadership experience
Proven ability to coach and develop managers and hold a high bar for performance
Highly organized with strong follow-through and attention to detail
Comfortable being hands-on, present in gyms, and actively involved in operations
Clear, direct communicator who sets expectations and follows up consistently
High accountability mindset—does not let things slip through the cracks
Passionate about climbing, community, and developing people
Embodies Sender One’s Core Values in decision-making and leadership style
Salary And Commitment
Salary: $85,000 – $100,000 / year
Must be able to work a minimum of 40 hours per week (Sun–Sat)
Must be able to attend regular Manager meetings and All Staff meetings
Expected to be physically present in gyms multiple days per week to support operations
