Job Overview
The Assistant Buyer plays a key role in supporting the Buying team in developing and managing a strategic, guest-focused product assortment across onboard retail shops. This role contributes to assortment planning, vendor management, sales analysis, and operational execution to deliver a world-class shopping experience to cruise guests.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to product selection and procurement across categories including beauty, apparel, handbags and accessories, liquor, jewelry, souvenirs, and travel essentials
Analyze inventory levels, sales trends, and guest preferences to inform buying decisions and replenishment strategies
Manage purchase order processes, including coordination of shipment schedules and inventory distribution across cruise ships
Maintain accurate product data, pricing, and tracking within internal systems, ensuring data integrity
Partner with suppliers and logistics teams to resolve order discrepancies and support on-time delivery
Analyze sales reports and provide insights on product performance, identifying opportunities to optimize assortment and drive revenue
Contribute to seasonal assortment planning, promotional initiatives, and visual merchandising alignment
Collaborate cross-functionally with onboard retail teams, logistics, and operations to ensure seamless execution of initiatives
Participate in vendor meetings, product reviews, and industry events, including occasional ship visits or trade shows as needed
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising, Business, Hospitality, or related field
2-4 years’ experience in a retail buying or merchandising role (cruise/travel retail a plus)
Strong analytical and organizational skills; proficiency in Microsoft Excel and retail systems
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable working with international partners
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Interest in cruise guest behavior, global retail trends, and product innovation

Salary Range:
$75,000 – $80,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
