A growing and dynamic organization in the Silver Spring area is seeking an experienced Operational Accounting Manager to join its finance leadership team. This hybrid opportunity is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys improving processes, supporting operational leadership, and driving accounting excellence across the organization.


The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in operational accounting, financial reporting, month-end close management, and process improvement initiatives while partnering cross-functionally with business leaders.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operational accounting activities including general ledger, reconciliations, accruals, and month-end close
  • Oversee and review financial reporting packages to ensure accuracy and timeliness
  • Lead accounting process improvements and help streamline workflows across the finance function
  • Partner with operational and executive leadership to support business initiatives and financial decision-making
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff while fostering a collaborative team environment
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Coordinate with external auditors and support year-end audit activities
  • Analyze financial data and provide actionable insights to leadership
  • Support implementation or optimization of ERP systems and accounting technology tools


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with strong operational accounting exposure
  • Prior leadership or management experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting principles
  • Experience managing month-end close processes in a mid-sized or growing organization
  • Advanced Excel skills and ERP system experience required
  • CPA or CPA-track preferred but not required
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Ability to work independently in a hybrid work environment
