Rare CEO Brett Jenks recently joined the podcast A Climate Change with Matt Matern for a wide ranging conversation about Rare's community-led approach to conservation and building climate resilience. Here are three key points Brett made: 🎯 Protecting nature starts with protecting people. People are always at the center of our solutions. 🛠️ Helping a fisher get a bank account or a micro-insurance policy is as much a conservation tool as protecting the reef. Conservation is human resilience. 🌊 The real cost of climate inaction is a wave of climate migration “that will dwarf anything we’ve seen.” Climate migration is the consequence of failed adaptation.

Rare's Small-Scale Fisheries Impact Bond is grateful to be featured as a solution for the Centre for Impact Investing and Practices (CIIP). Click the report below to hear from more than 50 organizations pioneering finance models for long-term, sustainable governance and climate resilience. #ClimateAdaptation #ClimateResilience #ImpactInvesting #CatalyticCapital #Asia

Climate adaptation and resilience (CA&R) is needed now, as climate risks worsen day by day. The good news — there has been rising interest in CA&R from investors and funders alike. Our new report, developed in partnership with Temasek, Invesco, and CGIAR Hub for Sustainable Finance (ImpactSF), with support from Dalberg, provides a practical map of where and how capital can act to advance solutions and build resilience across the region. Launched at Ecosperity’s Impact Investing Roundtable organised by CIIP and Temasek, 𝘾𝙡𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝘼𝙙𝙖𝙥𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙞𝙣 𝘼𝙨𝙞𝙖: 𝙋𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙍𝙞𝙨𝙠, 𝙎𝙞𝙯𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙊𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙚𝙨, 𝙁𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙎𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 identifies 250+ solutions across 9 sectors in Asia. It also assesses their commercial readiness and impact potential, showing where philanthropic, public, and private capital can play distinct roles. The study points to a clear challenge: capital deployment is constrained not only by funding gaps, but also information gaps. Funders and investors need clearer visibility on which solutions are ready, what risks remain, and what types of capital are best suited to act. Also accompanying the report are:  💡  𝗔 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 mapping public, private and philanthropic capital flows and CA&R funding gaps across China, India, and Southeast Asia 💡 𝗔 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗶-𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 in Southeast Asia, outlining both the opportunities and risks shaping the landscape ➡️ Check out the report here: bit.ly/car-full-report ➡️ Explore the dashboard: https://lnkd.in/ggDjtApT #ClimateAdaptation #ClimateResilience #ImpactInvesting #CatalyticCapital #Asia

The countdown to the 2026 Our Ocean Conference continues. To deliver on the promise of #30x30, governments, organizations, and funders must turn their attention to the critical work being done by leaders on the ground: 💪 Those who turn ocean ambitions into ocean actions. 🌊 Those who understand the critical needs of their communities, whose lives depend on the very ecosystems being worn down by climate change. By partnering with organizations like Together for the Ocean, Rare is working to elevate the leaders whose voices must be heard above the din of treaties, promises, and commitments. Click the link in the post below or in the comments to hear from one of these leaders - Jubeta, Mamudo Namaneque, Director of Ilha de Moçambique's district government, a member of #Coastal500, and a representative to Our Ocean in Kenya - and her work dismantling barriers to locally-led marine protection initiatives in her district.

Meet Jubeta Mamudo Namaneque, Director of Ilha de Moçambique’s district government - a small island community off Mozambique’s east coast in the Indian Ocean - and a member of the #Coastal500. Led by Rare, Coastal 500 is the world’s largest network of mayors and local government leaders working to build thriving coastal communities and restore ocean health. The network brings together leaders from around the globe to share knowledge, exchange best practices, and drive action for sustainable coastal futures. Jubeta joined Coastal 500 to help deliver meaningful ocean protection in her region. At the heart of the network is a simple principle: long-term marine conservation works best when coastal communities have the tools, resources, and authority to manage the ecosystems they depend on. Her leadership is already proving what that looks like in practice. Jubeta has helped overcome longstanding barriers to establish fisheries management systems and managed access areas with marine reserves in local waters. When questions arose from the national government around zoning and demarcation, she stepped in to move the process forward and keep momentum alive. 👉 Watch the story behind Jubeta’s community and their marine conservation work here: https://lnkd.in/eGKiWxAK Stories like this remind us that delivering 30x30 effectively and equitably depends on strong local leadership. The 2026 Our Ocean Conference is an opportunity to turn ambition into action, ensuring leadership #ForTheOcean is shaped by the people and communities whose lives are most connected to the sea.

In Botswana’s communal rangelands, extended heat waves and shrinking water sources are exacerbating ecosystem degradation, making it harder for communities to meet daily needs. The Ecosystem-Based Adaptation and Mitigation in Botswana’s Communal Rangelands project, a national Government of Botswana initiative financed by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), co-financed by the Government of Botswana and executed by Conservation International, is fostering solutions to these mounting ecological and livelihood challenges. As an implementation partner, Rare is bringing behavioral science and community-led conservation to support sustainable grazing, healthier livestock, stronger livelihoods, and restored ecosystems. Through the Herding for Health approach, local communities, Farmer Facilitation Teams, EcoRangers, Conservation International, and the Government of Botswana are working together to strengthen climate resilience across 46,000 km² of rangelands and improve outcomes for 247,000 people. When Indigenous knowledge, ecological science, and behavior-centered design all align with community-driven efforts, conservation can deliver durable benefits for people, animals, and nature. #BehavioralScience #ClimateResilience #CommunityLedConservation #RegenerativeAgriculture #Rangelands

What does 30x30 look like in practice? In Honduras, it looks like coastal communities, fishers, and municipal leaders working together to protect nearshore waters through locally led “exclusion zones” that reserve critical areas for artisanal fishing and reduce industrial pressure. This is ocean conservation rooted in rights, livelihoods, food security, and local stewardship — not just lines on a map. As Diana Vásquez, Rare’s Vice President for Central America, shares, Honduras is showing how community-led governance can help deliver lasting biodiversity outcomes while strengthening the people and places most connected to the sea. A powerful model for advancing 30x30 in ways that are equitable, enforceable, and built to last. The future of ocean protection is #local! Communities closest to the ocean are its fiercest protectors. And yet, their voices are often absent from the global conversations shaping the future of ocean conservation. At next month's Our Ocean Conference, Rare will spotlight local leaders and #Coastal500 members whose lives depend on the ocean and whose knowledge is critical to the future of healthy ocean ecosystems. We're proud to work with partners like Together for the Ocean, who understand and amplify the critical need for local voices in global decision-making, and we're especially proud to have our local and indigenous leaders spotlighted in this series. Stay tuned! #ForTheOcean

Meet the local leaders driving action #ForTheOcean. Ahead of the Our Ocean Conference in Mombasa and Kilifi Counties, Kenya, we’re launching a new series spotlighting those on the frontline of ocean protection. Each week, we are going to be sharing stories from community advocates and people turning ambition into action on the ground. From students to fishers to mothers, ocean protection is already happening in communities around the world. Millions rely on a healthy ocean for food, livelihoods, and cultural identity, and those closest to it often hold the most practical, hard-earned knowledge of how to protect it. Yet these perspectives are too often missing from global decision-making. If 30x30 is to move beyond targets and into real outcomes, it must be shaped by the people living with its consequences every day. As we count down to OOC11, we’re amplifying the voices that should be defining the future of ocean protection. Keep an eye out for our first spotlight! Rare Blue Ventures EarthEcho International

AI isn’t coming. It’s already here. The real question for nonprofits isn’t whether to use it. It’s how to use it responsibly, humanely, and in service of impact. In a recent Rare Conversation, technology entrepreneur and 'AI for Nonprofits' co-author Cheryl Contee offered a powerful reframing: AI adoption isn’t really about tools. It’s about access, culture, ethics, and leadership. That’s where nonprofits have a unique opportunity. Mission-driven organizations can model what responsible, values-led AI looks like, not just for the social sector, but for everyone watching. Click the link in the comments to watch the recap of our Rare Conversation with Cheryl Contee and explore what it means to rewrite the rules of AI for good. #AIForGood #Nonprofits #ResponsibleAI #SocialImpact #RareConversations
