Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to oversee the accounting operations and financial reporting functions for our Construction Division in Miami, FL. This leadership role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of all financial activities related to construction operations and project accounting.

The Accounting Manager will play a critical role in supporting project profitability, cost control, budgeting, financial reporting, cash flow management, and strategic business decision-making. The ideal candidate will possess strong construction accounting expertise, leadership abilities, and a deep understanding of job costing, revenue recognition, billing processes, and financial controls within a fast-paced construction environment.

This position works closely with Project Managers, Operations, Payroll, Human Resources, and Executive Leadership to ensure financial performance, operational efficiency, and compliance with accounting standards and company policies.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Oversight

  • Oversee daily accounting operations related to construction projects and division activities
  • Supervise project accounting functions including:
    • Job cost tracking
    • Revenue recognition
    • Financial reporting
    • Cost allocations
  • Monitor:
    • Project budgets
    • Profitability
    • Overhead expenses
    • Financial performance metrics
  • Review financial transactions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
  • Ensure proper allocation of:
    • Labor costs
    • Material costs
    • Equipment expenses
    • Subcontractor costs
    • Overhead expenses
Reporting & Financial Analysis

  • Prepare and review:
    • Monthly financial statements
    • Project cost reports
    • Forecasts
    • Management reports
  • Analyze financial variances, trends, and operational performance indicators
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to leadership for strategic decision-making
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning activities
  • Coordinate year-end closing processes and audit preparation efforts
Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable & Billing Oversight

  • Supervise accounts payable and accounts receivable operations
  • Oversee:
    • Progress billings
    • Change order billings
    • Collections
    • Subcontractor payments
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • Contract terms
    • Lien waivers
    • Insurance requirements
    • Payment schedules
  • Review aging reports and support collection activities as needed
Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Ensure compliance with:
    • GAAP standards
    • Company policies
    • Tax regulations
    • Labor compliance requirements
  • Maintain and improve internal accounting controls and financial procedures
  • Coordinate with:
    • External auditors
    • Tax consultants
    • Financial institutions
  • Identify opportunities for accounting process improvements and system efficiencies
Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Supervise and support accounting staff within the division
  • Partner closely with:
    • Project Managers
    • Operations teams
    • HR/Payroll
    • Executive Leadership
  • Provide financial guidance and operational support to project teams
  • Promote accountability, accuracy, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the department
Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in:
    • Accounting
    • Finance
    • Business Administration
    • Related field required
  • CPA designation preferred but not required
Experience

  • Minimum 5-7 years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory or management experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Construction accounting
    • Job costing
    • Revenue recognition
    • Billing processes
    • Financial controls
  • Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with accounting and ERP systems such as:
    • Sage
    • QuickBooks
    • Similar construction accounting platforms
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong financial reporting and analytical capabilities
  • Knowledge of:
    • Payroll allocation
    • Labor burdening
    • Construction financial reporting
