National Nurses Week begins today, a time to recognize the vital role nurses play in caring for patients every day. At Walgreens, our specialty pharmacy nurses support people with complex conditions through infusion care, patient assessments, fertility medication support, and education on prescriptions and treatments. For Sallyann Spina RN, nursing has always meant showing up during life’s most vulnerable moments. A nurse for 30 years, including the past seven at Walgreens, Spina was inspired by the compassion her family experienced when her daughter spent time in the NICU. Today, she supports fertility preservation and oncology patients remotely, guiding them through medication administration, storage and financial assistance options. Often, she serves as a calm, reassuring presence when patients feel overwhelmed, helping them navigate care with confidence. This Saturday, April 25, Walgreens is encouraging communities nationwide to take part in National Prescription Drug Take‑Back Day and help prevent prescription drug misuse.    On Take‑Back Day and every day, Walgreens offers free, safe ways to dispose of unwanted, unused or expired medications. Team members at all Walgreens pharmacies can provide DisposeRx packets for at‑home disposal or prepaid mail‑back envelopes for secure mailing to an authorized destruction facility.     Since launching our safe medication disposal program in 2016, Walgreens has helped safely dispose of more than 7.9 million pounds of unused prescription medications.
