Exciting progress for rural healthcare in Utah! I was happy to join Brittney Okada, MPH, CHES representing Utah Department of Health and Human Services this week as we provided an update on our Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) to the Utah Legislature's Federal Funds Legislative Oversight Committee. With a first-year federal investment of $195.7 million from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, we are moving forward with a plan that makes one-time, generational investments in our rural health systems. Our update provided a report on our progress which included timelines for releasing competitive funding opportunities to Utah's rural communities through our 7 Strategic Initiatives including: Workforce development (RISE); preventive care (PATH); telehealth expansion (LIFT); and infrastructure (SHIFT), among other initaitives. Combined these initiatives will accelerate the building of Utah's rural health ecosystem. As we move into the summer, we are thrilled to begin opening funding opportunities that will allow local, tribal, and community partners to bring these initiatives to life. The Utah DHHS Tobacco Prevention and Control Program (TPCP) has an internship focused on the intersection of data and public outreach. We are seeking two interns to support our mission of reducing tobacco-related health disparities and preventing youth nicotine dependence. Epidemiology Intern: You will work directly with our program epidemiologist to collect, analyze, and interpret tobacco-related data to identify trends and evaluate program impact. Media & Communications Intern: You will focus on youth tobacco prevention by assisting with the development and implementation of strategic media campaigns and community outreach.
