We’re proud to see Krister Holladay, SSA Marine’s Vice President of Government Affairs, named Vice Chair of the National Association of Waterfront Employers (NAWE). Marine terminal operators are a critical link in the gateway to the U.S. market and play an essential role in keeping the nation’s supply chains moving, supporting exporters, and strengthening the U.S. economy. We look forward to continuing to work with NAWE to advance the infrastructure, partnerships, and policies needed to meet the challenges ahead for our industry. Congratulations to Krister, and to Ed McCarthy on his appointment as Chairman of NAWE.
We’re pleased to announce new leadership on our Board of Directors at NAWE! Ed McCarthy, COO of the Georgia Ports Authority, has been elected Chairman of the Board, and Krister Holladay, VP of Government Affairs at SSA Marine, has been named Vice Chair. With decades of leadership across port operations, policy, and investment, Ed and Krister step into these roles at a pivotal time for the maritime industry—helping advance safe, efficient, and competitive U.S. waterfront operations. “America’s ports and terminal operators are essential to global commerce and national economic strength,” said Ed McCarthy, Chairman of NAWE. “It’s an honor to serve as Chair of this organization and to work alongside such a dedicated board. NAWE’s mission—to strengthen collaboration between employers, labor, and policymakers—has never been more important as our industry invests in infrastructure, technology, and workforce development to meet future demand.” “The waterfront industry is built on partnership, innovation, and reliability,” said Krister Holladay Holladay, Vice Chair of NAWE. “I’m proud to serve as Vice Chair and to support Ed and the board as we champion policies that keep U.S. ports competitive, create well‑paying jobs, and ensure the smooth movement of goods that Americans rely on every day.” Congratulations to both on this important milestone. Meet the newest addition to the fleet in Squamish: a 2025 Kone SMV 33-1200C forklift powered by Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO). Built with a Cummins Tier 4 Final engine and fueled by renewable HVO diesel, this machine delivers the power and reliability our operations depend on while helping reduce emissions. Made from waste cooking oils, animal fats, and other renewable materials, HVO is changing the way heavy equipment can operate more sustainably. As a drop-in renewable diesel, it works in most existing diesel engines without requiring major equipment changes — making it a practical solution for reducing environmental impact today. Investing in lower-emission solutions like HVO is one of the ways we're working toward more sustainable operations while keeping cargo moving safely and efficiently. #Squamish #Sustainability #RenewableDiesel #CleanEnergy #HeavyEquipment

Our work as marine terminal operators is deeply connected to the environment. Whether it’s reducing waste, conserving energy, or supporting local community initiatives, every effort matters. This year, our teams have focused on a wide range of activities that reduce our environmental impact, including deploying innovative battery electric cargo handling equipment, transitioning some of our fleets to renewable fuels, and participating in local beach cleanups. Moving forward, we’re excited to continue to do more in support of our sustainability goals and our communities. Happy Earth Day! #EarthDay #Maritime #MarineTerminals

Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray visited the Port of Seattle and delivered remarks on the importance of the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund supporting the Ports of Seattle and Tacoma, securing $8 million for the installation of shore power at Terminal 18, securing $2.33 million for the Army Corps of Engineers’ Seattle Harbor project to deepen navigation channels at the port, and increasing the funding level for the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund to a historic $3.47 billion, while ensuring donor ports like the Ports of Seattle and Tacoma get their fair share. Joining Senator Murray was Nicolas GAUTHIER, President of SSA Marine’s Global Container Division, alongside representatives of the The Northwest Seaport Alliance, the ILWU, and exporter F.C. Bloxom. SSA Marine appreciates Senator Murray’s leadership and her ongoing efforts to support Washington State and our ports.
